Wow, I can't believe how dead this thread has gotten...nothing new in a few days. Where is everyone and what's happening?

I understand...but I haven't even seen anything from my buddies Allen or John...come on guys, surely you've got something to discuss? ;D

Its summer .. you know no one listens to radio in the summer. Everyone is on vacation!

Listeners may be on vacation, but those of us in radio??? Vacation? What the heck is that??? :D

Hmm, good question, for radio people, I guess vacation is when you get a parttimer to drive the van back to the station after a pool party event and you get to stay and drink, use a gift certificate to a local restaurant to eat dinner and use free station movie tickets that night...and the next day, you don't need to come in until your shift.

That pretty much nails it.

I'm still here guys. Not alot going on.Well actually there are some things happening
like a station that was off the air for a while last week because a truck parked in front of the satellite dish and no one in the building knew how to put a phone feed on the air.Oh the joys of not having a human on the board. This was the same station that was off the air weekend before last for a long time because the computer messed up again or somebody didn't switch something back after a Saturday night show.I just don't understand but hey what do I know???This is the same station that I hear alot of PSA's filling breaks and its no wonder why.. or I hear a spot still running in August that mentions it being a new year at so and so business.I just shake my head.....I hope you guys and girls on the board are doing well...

Allen

I too am still here. I've been playing with a new play toy an Optimod PC card for my PC. It is an Optimod on-air processor on a PCI card that fits in your computer. It's pretty cool too and my little home based station sounds fantastic now. I just have to get the music scheduling software now and get that all setup and I will have it.

I've always wondered how those things work. Can you program it to do pretty much everything an Optimod can?

Sorry to get a little techincal here for those who don't know what I am talking about.

Yep sure can! The version 2 software is the same as an 8500HD processor. The only thing is I don't think it has a final limiter to keep you from overmodulating or the peak control is not as good as in an analog processor, but otherwise it's the same thing. It looks to the PC like a sound card and works well with an EMU 1212m (or any professional grade soundcard and even some built-in stuff) but the SoundBaster sound cards forget it it doesn't play well with those. Trust me I had a hard time setting it up until I removed the SoundBlaster Live! card that was in the PC. Once I did the Optimod PC lived happily. I then added the EMU card and everything works together.

Please tell me where I can find out more about the Optimod PC card. I've just started doing research on sound cards and this sounds interesting. If someone was wanting to purchase a computer to do broadcast audio automation, what specs would you suggest? Thanks in advance for your help.

First start off at www.orban.com for all the info on the Optimod PC card. Then buy from BSW (Broadcast Supply Worldwide) and talk with Kelley Sullivan at 1-800-426-1170. She is my sales rep with them and I told her I'd send everyone I know to her since she was so nice and helpful. As to the specs on an automation system it will depend on the automation system you want to use, but most modern PCs will handle the task quite easily. PM me for more specifics on you case. I use iMediaTouch and (not yet) can give techical assistance on it. I'm in the process of tring to get on their tech support team. I can also recommend AudioVAULT, but both of these may be too expensive depending on what it is you want to do or need.

Hmmm. I always had my radio when I was on vacation. Even my days in my hometown of Wilmington I always had my radio on the beach. Listening to 1340 WGNI or 1490 WHSL. ;D Also remember those old jingles, (generic ones) that came on an LP to the radio station...Take a Lively Companion Where ever you go...Take a portable radio...Yeah! Yeah! Great Memories for me.

AMLover, you will enjoy this site http://www.normanb.net/pepper.htm

Lots of the old Pepper Tanner stuff - Air Play, The Station That's AllAll Heart ...

Look east to the start of a Carolina Morning,
East to the start of a Carolina Day,
It's a country celebration and a county jubilee,
From the Piedmont to the Seeeeeaaaaaa...
Living it up Down East!
Living it up Down East!

There was a long version, too.
I played it everytime I didn't have a 45 ready.
(Usually when I went to the john or if my boss was yakking at me on the hotline.)
This was back in the 80's at WRNB New Bern.

More to life than 9 to 5
that's our point of view
together we'll add music in everything you do
take us with you as you
over the simple pleasures
we're WRAL, and we belong together.

I remember that jingle by heart from them in 1980. I loved that moniker "We Belong Together". I don't know how many other stations used it back then but they were unique in my book.
