Where is Kim McCarthy?

She is not in the portrait on WSB RADIO's website. I also noticed there has been no mention of the "Sky Plane". Wonder if they have only one IFO in the air now.

The plan, the plane, the plane!

Heard years ago they didn't use the plane so much, too slow and too cumbersome to get to breaking traffic hot spots. Think they still put her on a filter mike and she did overall traffic reports. I don't think I've heard the "Triple Team Traffic" tag in quite some time. But I may be wrong …

I may be wrong so correct me if I am but I was under the understanding that "Triple Team Traffic" represents traffic reports:

1- From the air
2- Traffic Cams (in the traffic center)
3- Traffic Troopers (Volunteer listeners)

The traffic tag

"Triple Team Traffic"
… originally meant the mobile (ground) unit, the helicopter, the plane. Then I believe they added "the traffic center" and combined the plane and copter into "the air."

But I don't think I've heard them use that tag in a while.

The helicopter is about a power of ten more expensive than the fixed wing. Unfortunately though, given the Atlanta airspace there are many places you can get close enough to observe with the helicopter but not the fixed wing.

Kim no longer does traffic because she couldn't scream at you as loud, fast and continuously to keep up with WSB's obtrusive traffic-reporting standards.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it as long as my ears keep hurting during the AM drive.

WGST Promo in the 1980's

They ran a series of digs at WSB during their all-news iteration. One had the sound online of a phone ringing but never answered, with the copy that this was what you got if you dialed the WSB Radio newsroom at 3:00 AM. Another had a female voice on filter saying, "No, no, I can't get there! This plan is too slow!"
