Where Is Samantha Layne???

She wasn't on the air this morning and is not on the Hawk website. This can't be one of those simple "IT oversights" and thus it can't be good. I don't normally jump to conclusions, but it's now The Hawk Morning Show and only Rick's picture on the page. Nothing against Rick, but this is a most crappy way to start the week.

Let go on Friday due to budget cuts
More to come

You've got to be kidding me. One would think if a cut was needed it would have been middays.

Bad move by the new owners.

I saw this on the Hawk's facebook page:
"Thanks for your concern about Sam. Our company is going through a change in ownership and, unfortunately, a few of our friends’ were let go. Sam was one of those people. She left on good terms and she will be missed very much here, too."

Sad to see her go. This is why radio should not be owned by a giant conglomerate outside the area. They cut every way they can until nothing is left but a satellite on one end and a transmitter on the other. Every Lehigh Valley station besides WDIY and WGPA pretty much is.....

Bad, bad move. Layne has a very sultry timber, which won't be easy to replace. She is clearly the Alpha in that pairing, and I'm guessing that's why she was cut - she was probably paid more.

But... she is worth more. No disrespect to Rick, but Sam was the anchor of the pair. She was sexy without being overtly so. Her anecdotes are richer (Married, kids, inlaws, etc.)

You're right when you say that the new owners don't get it. Very few people are listening to hear yet another replay of Foreigner or Steve Miller. If you like that music, you already have it on your iPhone. You listened to Michaels and Layne mostly to hear Layne.

Bad move.

I'm guessing she'll take a pay cut, but someone else in the valley should already be talking to her. Her voice is a delight to the ears.

She wasn't anything great. Great Eye Candy. That's about it. The Hawk Morning Show has been in the toilet for a long time. Mid Days has the ratings and seems to have been carrying the station for a hell of a long time. Seltzer, I guess you don't see numbers, eh ? Yeah. Afternoons are hilarious. Evenings are embarrassing, sort of like afternoons BUT ! I must say I do enjoy the extended version of the traffic bed, minus traffic report. There will be more to come. Here... they come to snuff the rooster ;D

I must say I do enjoy the extended version of the traffic bed, minus traffic report..............i always thought that was one of the classic hits the hawk plays; i've heard it quite a few times; doesn't repitition create a hit.........................

x2
A decent sidekick, but not a solo act. The idea that she was the “anchor” on this show is absurd. Apparently all the bits are property of Michaels – whenever Layne was on alone or with a sub, they nixed “Defend your Gender” and “On the couch” etc.

Another option would be to have your #2 do the last two hours of am drive, then cover middays either live or VT. There is likely a good reason it was not done that way. And if Sam is so great why did she last <1 yr at B101?

She didn't have the ability to do the show herself. If Willy's drinking buddy couldn't fill for Rick, Marvelous Marvin did the show on his own. Her husband works at B101. That may answer "most" questions.

I'm not so sure that the bits that they did were approved by anyone other than the (former) Nassau executives at the Princetom mothership. Every bit that was on The Hawk was on their Frank brands, as well. What was on PST, was on all their CHR/Hot AC properties, etc. Nassau operated all their stations the same way, regardless of the formats.

As for Samantha Layne's departure from B101, I heard it was just a simple case of a big fish in a small pond swimming upstream in to the ocean and getting eaten by a shark...

B does tons of research..probably more than any other station in the country thanks to Jerry Lee's pockets. They likely made the change because the research showed the "two female" act wasn't working. They weren't going to replace Tiffany at the time.
