Where is the Elvis Christmas Music?

On the way to the doctor this morning, I fliped between 92.9 & 93.7. All I hear is Christmas Music by artist or singers I have never heard of. Where is Brenda Lee? Where is Bobby Helms? Where is Jackie Wilson? Especially, where is ELVIS! I want to hear some Elvis Christmas Music. I know I should not rant on here, but the Christmas Music my Dad played for me when I was growing up isn't getting airplay. The only time I've heard Elvis doing "Blue Christmas" this year is the Verizon Spot on TV. Shame, Shame, Shame! I guess I'm acting like an old man!

Gee I thought the subject of this thread was: Where is the Elvis Costello Christmas music?

Elvis Costello doing Christmas Music? Now that would be strange, although he is a friend of George Jones.

Buddy,
Leslie said to tell you I act like an old man around the house!

Alright. Let's go over this again. If you are over over 30 and don't listen to right-wing talk, radio doesn't care about you. Which is why radio, as we knew it is dead. Now back to your I-pods!

nohing worse than Neil Diamond's "Merry Cherry Christmas"...he makes reference
to all his own hit tunes: more self-serving than right-wing talk radio hosts!

Where is the Elvis Christmas Music?

Back to the subjectI've only heard "Blue Christmas" by E about 30-dozen times (okay, I may have stretched it a little)
"Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" is running a close second, but that keeps the Shacklett family's money coming in every year.
But has anyone heard any other Elvis Christmas songs?

Yea Chris...heard the Diamond thing yesterday....Think I'd rather hear that other dumb song House plays every year....even though it won't come to me now.

The story I heard was that Elvis hated Blue Christmas. He didn't want to record it, and wanted to find a way to kill it. So he came up with the repetitious background vocals. He figured they'd be so annoying, that people would hate the song and it wouldn't become a hit. Instead, it had the opposite effect. But as a listener, I get what Elvis was trying to do, I find those background vocals annoying, and I always shut the radio off when that song comes on.

But look at all the money he made off it and his estate still makes money off it today. After seeing the money he made off the song, I would think he would have been happy about it.

Brenda Lee’s, Rockin around the Christmas Tree. I recall watching an interview with her and Ralph Emery and she had to record that song in the middle of July. The studio personnel had to go out and get a Christmas tree, decorate it, just to get her in the mood to record the song. Look how big of a hit this is and is still a hit today, and used in a Christmas Movie in the 90's.

Couldn't agree more, romer! Diamond's latest Christmas CD, his career third I believe, is awful. It's like Glenn Beck's "Christmas Sweater," sans the whimsy.

Yeah, Neil's jumped the shark with that one. As for Elvis, we like those songs because they remind us of Christmas when we were young. Nothing wrong with that, nothing to apologize for. Each generation will have their own set of songs for memories. My personal favourite is that most-hated of Christmas songs, "Jingle Bells" by the Singing Dogs.

My dogs go "NUTS" when they hear that song, it takes them 5 minutes to shut up ofter that song has ended!

I absolutely detest "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" and I am absolutely going to hit the dial each and every time it comes on! That song has been beaten to death for years! Why won't they give it a rest? And to make matters worse, two of my least favorite singers, Amy Grant and LeAnn Rimes, have recorded completely unnecessary cover versions of it! ::)

Everyone seems to have at least one overkilled Christmas song that they can't stand anymore, well that one sends ME over the edge!

"Grandma got ran over by a raindeer" is the one that pushes me over the edge. It is the worst thing about Christmas.

We'll is it the closer we get to Christmas; we don't want to hear those songs anymore for another year?

That's the one thing I have never been able to understand, Jewish artist recording and releasing Christmas albums. And there have been several through out the years that have done that, Barbra Striesand, Michael Bolton, Kenny G and both Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow have released 3 a piece. And this year, Bob Dylan has even released a Christmas Album. That would be like Amy Grant or Steven Curtis Chapman recording an album of Ramadam Music or Muhammed Ali recording a Channakah album.

White Christmas, one of the most performed Christmas songs of all time, was written by Irving Berlin.

I've spoken with several Jewish artists who've recorded Christmas albums, and they've told me a variety of things. It's not always seen as a religious holiday, but a time for family and gifts. Some are from mixed families (as in, their wife is Christian) where Christmas was celebrated. Some just liked the music. Some like the money.

In my opinion, "The Christmas Shoes" is the absolute worst Christmas song in history. It makes me want to puke every time I hear it.
