Where Is The FM DX?

This has got to be the worst March for FM DX that I can recall. I know March typically isn't a great month for it, but there's usually more activity here in Michigan than there has been this year. We usually get one or two decent openings, but it's still as dead band as it is in the middle of January.

I think it must be because of the cold weather. Hopefully the warmer weather next week will pump some life into the FM DX conditions.
______________

It's pretty much been winter for the last week here in SW Ohio, obviously the same in Michigan. As you said, warmer weather is on the way and it should make a difference. We have several FMs running IBOC here, but the sideband hash should be easy for DX to overcome.
______________

I only suspect a few stations here are running IBOC. But even at that rate, where i'm at right now (Southern Michigan) i'm far enough away from any large city that the IBOC doesn't affect many stations.

It's been dead band practically all month. I did have one opening earlier this month that brought Detroit in pretty well for a couple of days, but besides that, absolutely nothing to speak of.
______________

We've been getting some tropo on and off on the FM band here. Mostly from West Michigan (Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, etc)

I managed to get some Green Bay/Appleton earlier this month as well.

I'm in Central Ohio and can attest that this has been one of the worst DX winters I've ever seen and March has been completely dead.

I've really only DX'ed FM since October 2002, so this would have been my fourth winter for DX. I'm glad to know it's not just me. Here's a quick look at how my last winters have been with DX.

Winter 2002-03- Was still getting some new semi-local stations. Didn't really notice any lack of tropo conditions.

Winter 2003-04- GREAT winter for meteor scatter. Confirmed something like three stations through Ms. Great for me, as I don't have the toys and gadgets required to get meteor scatter. I also heard a couple stations through tropo.

Winter 2004-05- An e-skip opening around Christmas resulted in one new catch from South Dakota. At the new year, I heard a Green Bay country station over nearby 104.9 WWKN. After that, it was completely dead until a new station signed on near Jackson.

Winter 2005-06- Nothing to speak of.. At all.. Here's hoping for an awesome Spring.
______________

We're finally getting some DX activity here.

Last night, I was able to hear WAKL 88.9 from Flint. The station runs only 380 watts and it is over 100 miles away. Only the second time i've heard it, but this was the strongest.

I also heard WCZE 103.7 from the Thumb along with WGER 106.3 from Saginaw only for the second time.

I tried unsuccessfully for other low-power FM stations in that area. But I have hope now.
______________
