Where is the Smooth Jazz????

This is Market 5. We have hosted the Smooth Jazz Awards at the Bass and The Oasis was in or near the top 10 with close to a 3.0 share consistently. What is wrong with these corporate idiots!?!? MOViN sucks! 1.9 ::) What is it going to take to get a smooth jazz station back on the air? (It happened in Philly...) I will admit that I have Sirius and listen to 71 Watercolors (smooth jazz). However, a number of family and friends don't and FM just ain't cuttin' it here. We need smooth jazz & AAA in DFW. We do NOT need 25 Spanish stations, just as many country stations and hip hop rap CRAP!

That's why I too have Sirius ... I love the commercial free music and the NASCAR 128 channel.

Well even though I don't listen to The Beat or K104, they are surviving and The Oasis did not. All the suburban white kids are keeping those stations near the top in their demos. So hip hop is not CRAP.

Im with jeff, we need variety, not more of the same latin/hiphop BS

They may have had a 3 share, but I bet if you check the break-outs, their 25-54 numbers were no place near top 10. If I remember right, they were closer to 20th than 10th in P25-54.

I haven't looked at the latest ratings, but if Movin's 1.9 is better than 20th 25-54, the flip may already be deemed a success by those corporate idiots.

And We don't "NEED" smooth jazz or AAA in DFW. There may be people that "WANT" them, but there's a big difference between wants and needs.

Rightly or wrongly, CBS suits WANT and NEED a station that is going to pull their billing weight. If Jazz ain't going to do it, they'll try movin. If movin doesn't cut it, they'll change to something else, I'm sure...

Have you considered that something like 40% of the market is now hispanic (of some variety)...
Balance that out with the 40% (approx) of the market that's "anglo"...

And consider that maybe there's a spanish language version of this board where the posters are complaining about not enough variety...And asking why the gringos need 2 classic rock stations, 3 chick music stations, 8 talk stations, 3 sports stations, a gazillion country stations, etc etc etc...

I may not like all teh spanish stations we have, but I'm also a capitialist. If they want to try it and make money, more power to them. But there's also the real possibility that they try it and lose money...

America was founded on capitalism....Why do you people hate America? ::) ;D :D

Milton has a great idea. Smooth jazz on 93.3. The Bone has been on for over 4 years, and it hasn't been a success. Time for a flip.

Actually, the 12+ rated market is 23% Hispanic and 13% Black. That means that 2/3 of the market is non-Hispanic white.

Actually, more like 66%.

Actually, there isn't. Most of the posters to Spanish boards are complaining about the lack of different formats in Spanish and why there are 5 or so regional Mexican stations in Dallas and no rock en español station.

Absolute Capitalism.... Corrupts [Your Soul] Absolutely

You can hear smooth jazz on 107.5 - 2. That is, their HD 2 channel.
It's on my preset.

As for the Spanish outlets in the DFW area.... now there's your real census of how many Spanish listeners are actually in the area. Capitalism don't care if your legal or illegal.... they just wants your bucks.... no matter how you got them.

As usual, corporate America knows the price of every thing, and the Value -- of Nothing. I'd like to think the FCC will come to the rescue. But the Lowest Common Denominator is the GOLD Standard of De-Regualtion ! !

ROVER: ABSOLUTLEY! CONsultants, Audience researchers, and Corp leadership are today's Marionettes. They love the control and will always manipulate, exagerate, fabricate and pervaricate in order to maintain it. What a listener actually likes is not worthy of their atention.

Um, anyone surprised DOMINO hasn't bothered to "AMEN" on this concerto?! We are singing your song over here, sir... although, we will have to visit LYRICS.com to discover what those words are again.

I still miss The Oasis !!

On these new HD radios, for example, lets use The Oasis, since this thread is about that station. On 107.5-2 or whatever the frequency is, are there disc-jockeys, are there commercials, are there news and weather reports or just music 24/7?

I would also be interested in how far the signal goes out as well.

Thanks!

The HD-2 stations change frequently. The "Oasis" might be gone any day. I suggest not investing in HD - go with XM. 8)

This is why stations spend millions and millions to talk to listeners to find out what they like and want?

Link?
Google dallas population demographics and you'll get multiple hits on this little thing the US goverment does every 10 years. They call it a 'census'...Perhaps you've heard of it?

Hispanic or Latino(of any race) 35.55%

Oh look...

Race in Dallas, TX,
53.7% of people are white, 25.8% are black, 2.7% are asian, 0.5% are native american, and 17.4% claim "other."

36.0% of the people in Dallas, TX, claim hispanic ethnicity...

And this is OLD info...Does anybody here think the hispanic population is going up or down?

Dallas, for radio, is a defined set of counties, not the CITY of Dallas, and all persons 12+ in that set of counties. The Hispanic population is, as of fall, 2006, 23% of the metro total.

The Arbitron data comes from the Census interim projections, as processed by Claritas.

I am afraid you are looking only at one city in one county of the entire, huge, metro area. And you are not looking at 12+, but 0+, and you are looking at 2000 data, not 2006 data.

Shame on you Little one...using the facts to dispute a CONsultants myths.

OK, let's all spell it together...

D...M...A... ,and for those at home that like a challenge... M...S...A.

Class dismissed.
