Where, oh where has Jim Vann gone?

Does that skinny little Eye-talian General Manager at KICKS 101.5 have a vendetta going against our boy Jim Vann? How else could one account for the fact that Jim seems once again to be relegated to a red-haired step-child position on the morning show? I thought that once Dago-boy fixed the morning show by installing Cadillac Jack, Kristin and Jim, all would be right with the world. Suddenly, Jimmy doesn't get to talk or interact with the other talent unless he's doing traffic or news/weather.

This morning show NEEDS Jim Vann and his quick wit and smart mouth as an equal to Caddy and Kristin, not just a mute sidekick. Caddy and Kristin also need to do some show prep before they get there. The last major talent team to sit in those studio chairs in the morning was Moby, Deborah and JIM VANN. They always had FUNNY and entertaining bits, and they made me laugh out loud. They also won an ACM award for best morning show in AMERICA back in 1998. The present team occasionally makes me smile, and they will always be viewing the ACM awards from their comfortable chairs at home.

If the GM wants to be the "victor" in the ratings wars, he's going to get off his narrow rump and promote the morning show like it deserves. The morning show should outperform the rest of the station. But look at the latest numbers that came out. Plain white bread radio won't get you into the top three in this market. Combine a bad book with new owners taking over soon, and you have a recipe for major changes from top to bottom at KICKS.

But hey....I could be wrong though...it's happened before....

I suggest you ease up on your Italian references not sure how that has to do with anything.

the whole topic is personal and classless. just a reason to slam Victor. Probably someone gone with an ax to grind. maybe Caddy and Kristen can address Jims contribution. Italian slams from someone with one post are cowardly in my opinion.

Also, having worked for Victor I can honestly say that I enjoyed his leadership and do not think that he ever did anything wrong. I think of him as a hardworking guy that has to make decisions not everybody may like. But then, don't we all have that ax to grind?

The first post makes one valid point - Jim is talented and he's being wasted. I would guess that management wants to put Jim in a box since the other talent isn't as sharp as Jim. Don't want to upstage the "stars", now do we?

absolutely no plan at Kicks to stifle Jim Vann. He is on the A team. All mistaken or misread observations.

OK, I was a bad boy for the Italian stuff...irrelevant to the topic. He's a nice man...loves his mother.

No, Jim does not want to be a non-player.

I notice in all the responses to my first posting that NO ONE took issue with the true content. Tell me how wonderful the GM is, bla bla bla. But KICKS got killed in the last book, and both the credit and the blame are rightly borne by the GM. That's why GMs get the big bucks....or get shown the door.

No one ever gets fired because too many people were listening to the station. No one ever gets fired for putting too good a product on the air. No advertisers quit buying because your cost per point is too good. The morning show at KICKS is going to have to step up many levels to be equal to the success that was there a few short years ago. Everybody's nice on the show, but nice won't get it done.

You radio people need to grow up...especially the ones whose skin is so thin that a casual ethnic comment gets your panties in a wad. Reference to a person's ethnicity does not a priori mean denigration. I love Italian people. Fuggetaboutit.

Casual ethnic comment? So you got called out on Italian stuff. If you wrote about black or hispanics that way this board would have crucified you. Now you half heartedly make a sidestep. BS.

Summer book, one trend, as well skewed also by an on-fire River's newness. No one at an adult radio station on this board would want their future based on it, and I'd be glad if I worked there. Jim Vann has survived in a place where you would paint apparantly the GM as a bad guy, thru a boatload of bad Moby books, B&B Books, and made it thru Cornett. If you havent figured it out, Moby was over long before he left KICKS. Seems they have done well without him.The station has been mainly a top 5 sometimes better station for a number of years, and he was part of it. It would seem to me that managment there has embraced him as part of the team. If he dosnt feel that way, he should speak to the morning show, the OM, the GM or step up and be heard...or leave. There is a whole bunch more at play here that whatever you are trying to stir up with this thread.

Wow, slamming the guy who signs your paycheck. Now that takes guts!

I have a buddy from Tennessee with a fantastic heavy Southern accent. He took a recent trip to NY and while in a fairly popular Jewish deli he requested his sandwich on EYE-talian bread.

The guy at the counter had people from the back come out to hear him pronounce it. I kid you not.

Just thought you'd like to know that Jim Vann is substituting this morning as well as Wednesday morning for the vacationing "Moby in the Morning." Rhubarb Jones, another former local full-time country radio jock, will fill in on the other days of ther week.

Meanwhile, Jim's been keeping busy with his website:
