Where there any glaring omissions on Ron's last day?

As in folks who didn't call in or didn't get mentioned? Anthing you wanted addressed but wasn't or was hinted at but was never brought up.

I'm sure there were omissions, but I doubt any were malicious (not that you necessarily mean that they were). The studio was a mad house all morning. And there were a few calls from Ron's friends and colleagues that didn't make it on the air because of time constraints.

Peggy Sears for one. She was part of that morning team for a long time.

That would be like asking Julius La Rosa to speak at Arthur Godfrey's funeral.

Well, look it up on Google.

I know that Mitch Carr has been out the past two weeks. Was this planned or unplanned? Also, seems like Kathy Jones could have done the baloon ascension from a more nearby location to enable her to be back in the studio by 8:55.

Unless something happened recently to heal the ongoing rift between Kathy and Ron, I'm sure she was unavailable for the final moments by choice. The balloons were probably her way of CELEBRATING. Knowing her side of things, I don't blame her. Nothing really bad implied here, just typical Ron stuff that continually mowed over an otherwise conscientious, caring person.

Why, yes. Listening to his departure at KVIL in 2000, just to simply move down the street to KLUV, Ron was in tears, and mentioned most of the notable folks by name who he encountered along the way. I never heard Ron even say 'goodbye' at KLUV. I was a little disappointed to not hear more emotion. Maybe Ron didn't want all of that, but goodbyes like that are pretty final, ya know? Especially after 50 years in radio. He had people in Connecticut who probably deserved an on-air pat on the back for giving him his first break in the biz. Others like Hugh Lampman and Ron Wortham and Jack Schell, who were there when the re-imaged KVIL hit the ground running in 1969 should have been honored as well...they were as much a part of the process of KVIL becoming #1 as Chapman was, whether his ego would allow him to give anyone else credit for that...and despite Chapman's efforts at KLIF, WFAA-TV and KLUV, KVIL was the crowning success of his career, and still a measuring stick of how many of us judge radio as a whole even today.

Beautiful. My favorite single word from the Charlie and Harrigan era was the end of the routine with them following the little guy deep underground--down and down and down. "STAIRWELL!!!"
