couldn't agree with you more, as a former WOBM employee caught up in the blood-letting of the 1996 Nassau takeover, I just remember how as a member of the news department we would gear up and work 12-hour shifts to make sure the story was covered. Back in the day, the WOBM news department had the power to interrupt music programming to provide updates and were not under any time limits. And it really wasn't hard to do...you just added a five minute update at the bottom of the hour and if need be, you maybe did wall-to-wall coverage for a few hours so that people were up to date on the status of evacuations, shelters, power outages, school closings(if applicable), etc. Those were the days.

What "emergencies" ? Power outages aren't emergencies.
The signs refer to Nuclear Alerts from Oyster Creek.

From Oyster Creek's site:

Emergency Broadcasts. Authorities relay emergency information and instructions to the public over local radio and TV stations. In an emergency, the following stations are your best source of accurate news: WOBM AM 1160, WJLK AM 1310, WOBM FM 92.7, WJLK FM 94.3, WRAT FM 95.9, WJRZ FM 100.1.

I agree. WOBM really annoyed me. I knew instantly to turn to WJRZ when i had lost my power. I thought about NJ 1015, but figured what are they going to care about my area? Not as much as someone truely covering the Ocean County Area.

I Called Spyder and was actually the one who told him about the Beachwood Power outage, and from that moment on he was on top of it. That is a true local DJ.

You mention the Oyster Creek Emergency.. what if there was on at night while Delilah is on? How would the information be broadcast, nobody is there.

It's a shame WJRZ doesnt have a local news team during the day, with their coverage, it would be superb I think.

No one needs to be at the station to broadcast emergency
information. It is handled from other locations -
State Police Emergency Management Headquarters in Trenton,
and for Millennium stations, the newsroom in Trenton.

Do you really want to rely on a DJ who is scared to
death when the shyte is hitting the fan ? I don't.

What Emergencies ???????? Rising flood waters and parts of Monmouth County being evacuated as well as power outages. WJRZ and NJ101.5 are doing it right and the others plain suck and are letting their communities down.

The cable company used to have local news too. They now only do interviews with
so called newsmakers at :25 and :55. Oh for the good old days when WOBM had a full time real news department and the cable company was owned by ADELLLLLPHIA .
