Las Vegas Where will brokered shows go? KSHP Change?

Since some of the KDWN shows went to KSHP, if KSHP changes format where would they go? KXNT is sister station of KDWN, so that may be problematic..maybe KMZQ? That station seems to be booked up, KSHP is a hodgepodge..sports, politics, shopping… oldies and shopping might work, sports and oldies? don’t think so.. KDWN is changing some shows on 12/2, As folks have pointed out, Vegas is a music market, talk and sports don’t cut it. So the oldies might be a good way to go.? Oldies format might market some of the casino “tribute” shows.. that seem to be out there on the strip, Stations and SouthPoint.a?

KMZQ is basically unlistenable at night. At least in Henderson. It drops to 600 watts to protect both Chicago and Los Angeles. KSHP is better but still way weaker than 840AM. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens

KSHP is hiring for a sales person, listed on the NV Broadcasters association website

Some one said it was sold to KD radio, some oldies effort or something..went to their website couldn’t figure it out, but I’m dumb. The “gun auction show guy”:KXNT Sunday, Said they were offered a slot, but it would have to be every weekday..

As Derek Underhill (he and his wife Sheila are the owners of KD Radio, which owns four full-power stations and two translators in New Mexico) has a JSA with the Albuquerque stations I consult and/or program, we are well acquainted. In fact, we go back to the days when he programmed a cable-only FM station in the San Fernando Valley, decades ago.

That said, the Underhills have indeed purchased KSHP via their newly formed corporation UBC; the sale was approved by the FCC on September 26 but the government shutdown delayed filing of the consummation notice.

Some one posted in the past that oldies stations have a surprisingly high percentage of Hispanic listenership, My only exposure to New Mexico radio is the talk big radio station in Albuquerque and the Shiprock Navajo station. Kshp probably is probably something that has a lot of potential with a little tweaking.

Depending on which oldies are chosen for the library, that can often be the case. The late Art Laboe made an entire career out of playing R&B oldies with dedications, both in his home market of Los Angeles, and in syndication. And those dedications came almost entirely from the Latino listeners.

Kshp probably is probably something that has a lot of potential with a little tweaking.

Knowing Derek, he would not have purchased it if he did not believe it had potential.
