Where will Nascar be on the radio next year.

Now that WYAY has not renewed it's Nascar contract for next year where will it be on atlanta radio next year? Atalnta Motorspedway will want MRN/PRN to have an Atalnta affiliate to promote the race.

I could see it on a number of station. I doubt the sports talkers would be able to pick it up due to contract of running NFL on Sundays with WW1. I could see it on The River, Rock 100,5, SB-AM, The Bull, and on Project 9-6-1. The Bull might have issues with Braves Baseball though.

Is NASCAR still a big money maker for local stations? I know in the days before every race was on TV it was a license to print money. My last experience with NASCAR was a very difficult sale.

WSB-AM, Kicks 101.5, or the Bull (if it is still around). The Zone and The Fan are possibilities, but I think they have conflicts. WGST-AM and a remote possiblity, but there would be a Braves conflict (same with the Bull).

No River since Cox does not want sports on its music stations (the River could serve backup if WSB-AM had a conflict with UGA). No Project since it caters to a goth audience (no NASCAR fans there). Rock 100.5 could, but unlikely.

My money is on WSB-AM if Kicks doesn't want it. Since the race stayed on 106.7 after the flip, it sounds like they didn't try to renegoitate the deal to move to Kicks, so it sounds like Kicks is uninterested (may be financial in nature). WSB-AM will probably get it by default (in a key NASCAR market nonetheless)...so Cox will pay a song.

That is unless PRN insists on an FM to complement raceday coverage...which will rule out Cox. Then it will be anybodys guess.

Does NASCAR really need to be on radio?

Typical play by play: Johnson turns left, Gordon turns left, Jr. turns left, Kenseth turns left, Hamlin turns left, Waltrip turns left. Oh no there's a wreck. (15 minutes later) Johnson turns left, Gordon turns left, Jr. turns left, Kenseth turns left, Hamlin turns left, Waltrip turns left. Oh no there's a wreck.

Check 92.5 The Bear--Big things happening with NASCAR and AMS. If they become the radio station of NASCAR, it's because they earned it!!

Problem is that there is no coverage above I-20. Could it now be split between rim shot stations like South 107 out of Rome and 92.5 The Bear on the south side? Would Cox consider it for their Bulldog station in Athens?

NASCAR IS ALSO ON REAL COUNTRY Q92.3FM (WMOQ) IN MONROE THAT COVERS WALTON AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES.

those are all good stations, but the coverage doesn't go allover the metro area. MRN/PRN will want a station witha metro wide signal. I don't see Nascar going to WNGC,I wounder if GT will remain on South 107 if True Oldies picks it up.

From what I have always heard Atlanta has always been a top cume radio market for NASCAR. Maybe an insider can update that for us, but it's at least going to be on a 100,000 watt station, the networks will make sure of that, even if they have to make a deal.

Though Cumulus will probably want it for all their Rock 100 metro sexual classic rockers that are bringing back the jean shorts and the achey breaky big mistakey mullets... Yeah come on, and start them engines, git r done.......! :p

the only one who would know is Rodney Ho,he found out about Nascar leaving from Rick Minter who is the Nascar beat writer for the AJC. Rock 100.5 would be a good choice, since they're all big race fans.
