Where Will Severin Resurface?

Let's face it, with his history in Boston, his return to the market is inevitable... but where?

Some are counting out 1200 too soon, but they could use the boost...

How about 'RKO? They've seen better days...

My dark horse, of course, is WWZN. ;D

"Where would we play Willie McGee?"--Lou Gorman (RIP)

Where would they put Severin (RKO, or XKS?) Would they dare put him on, say, at 7p in
place of Savage...who knows. Come late 2012, would you be tuning to RKO in pm drive to hear
Severin (or McPhee) and WTKK will have Howie? (He'd prefer AM drive)

Wouldn't bet on that if I were you. With VacayJay essentially admitting sexual harassment on the air, and with Entercom Boston having a female GM, that's not gonna happen.

Two problems with Severin (or anyone) on WRKO in the 7p slot. 1) The signal is crap after sundown and 2) sports overflow from WEEI. Say the Celtics make another run into the finals. You're talking at least one to three nights preempted for Sox games into late June. Howie is always complaining about losing an hour of his show for the pregame when that happens. Most high profile talent won't want that.

As for Jay in the morning on RKO I don't think it will happen. IMHO I think Entercom likes having Finneran there because that's one less strong competitor for Dennis & Callahan. Jay or Howie might cut into that audience.

Of course where I work in N. Reading the signal of RKO isn't crap. That's why I was not happy
when the Sox went to WEEI (just about) full time. But metro-west and other areas, yes.

Clear Channel could afford Sevrin if they wanted to. It would create some much needed buzz for the station and his loyal listeners which much be larger than they have now would follow.

Sevrin once told me the reason he gave up the WRKO gig was he didn't like working at night. My guess is he is not the type of guy who is going to get up at 5am. And he isn't going to make anywhere near the salary he had at TKK.

My guess is he is going to lay low for a while maybe write some columns or contribute to a blog. He did win a Pulitzer for his blog writing you know.

Ha, or the equivalent of it as he said. I did listen to his RKO show, 10-mid., and when he left the reason he gave was that he didn't have time for all his gigs incl MSNBC and he wanted time to "walk his dogs on the beach"

CC prob could afford him and if not they poss could dump Katz to make room (time or money wise) for Howie, though I hope that wouldn't happen. btw if not for the success of Kiss or Jamn, and if they thought FM talk would work for them, CC would have tried Talk 94.5 or Talk 107.9...speaking of FM, if RKO or EEI still had 98.5 as a sister station (certainly RKO had 98.5 as a sister station yrs ago) it would have made a perfect home for RKO or EEI on FM

WRKO has signal problems at night ONLY in MetroWest. Elsewhere in the market, they've got the best AM signal going--better in some places than WBZ. If you can't get your facts straight, it might be better not to post at all.

Mark/bostonradio tweeted to me (good points; I don't know what Sev & GM worked out):

>>@WMWMBlues Obviously he's getting paid to sit. In most cases, you sign a release of claims to get the $$$...Pretty sure the payments would stop were he to get a new gig in next two years so we wont hear him anywhere for a while...Legally, everyone is considered at-will employee so he could get another gig tomorrow but he'd forfeit his payout and (cont) there is no way he'd be stupid enuff to leave all that cash on the table

I don't think he will. This guy is too risky and too expensive. He'll have to change his act and accept some low dough.

"He'll have to change his act and accept some low dough..."

If Jay Severin were a football player, he'd be Terrell Owens. ::)

I live in Metrowest and lose the signal in Wellesley most nights. So my facts are right in my experience. If the signal is great elsewhere I stand corrected.

Only T.O. could actually score in his day, not just talk about... ::)
