WHERE'S ANDY ROONEY

For the first time since Andy Rooney has been associated with 60 Minutes his name was NOT mentioned nor was he on this Sunday's 60 Minutes.

Two of the three segments were repeats on 60 Minutes and this summer Andy Rooney has been in repeats.

Tonight, no Andy Rooney, repeat or otherwise. Why CBS ? ? ?

This happened many times before -- sometimes stories are either too long, or Andy had the week off.

Probably the Ray Nagin segment was too long.

Why were two of the three segments of "60 Minutes" repeats??

They should have devoted half of the show to Hurricane Katrina and the other half to interviews with experts on the Supreme Court to discuss the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist and what's next for the court.

That's not the type of show 60 Minutes normally is. It's a very preperation-based news feature show. To break from that would just make them another Dateline clone.

For that matter, where's Dan Rather? I haven't seen him on CBS
Evening News since March. (I know, just kidding!)

A word of praise for the old guy

I sincerely hope nothing untoward has befallen him.

Some years back I had to make many visits to Black Rock and observed some of the "talent" in their natural state.

"Blowhard" comes to mind for many of the very prominent.

But for Andy Rooney...the total opposite. He shunned the excecutive dining room and always had lunch in the cafeteria with the working people. Whatever table he joined always had lots of laughter and he spent more time listening than talking. Maybe that's why so much of his material is right on target! Whith him what you see is what you get.

May he live long and enjoy life!

All interesting theories, but where is Andy Rooney? Maybe I should call Emily.

Maybe he's off getting a microchip implanted in his arm...

(had to look up the quote)

February 10, 2002, on a 60 Minutes broadcast, Mr. Rooney said:
"We need some system for permanently identifying safe people. Most of us are never going to blow anything up and there's got to be something better than one of these photo Ids ... I wouldn't mind having something planted permanently in my arm that would identify me."
