Where's Eddie?

Three weeks into their new gig and Eddie Fingers takes the week off? Is CC already testing the waters to hear what the afternoon show would sound like without Eddie's salary? This pairing of Eddie and Tracy is questionable anyway and now this?

Sorry, but even when Eddie is there it's too much Tracy. He dominates the program. But listening to him solo this week has been a case study in bad radio. Truly awful. He sounds like a radio amateur -- his voice, delivery, timing -- and topicwise he's all over the place. And Eddie....can you please lose the WEBN dirtbag persona? You're not talking to a bunch of uneducated, heavy metal rednecks now. And stop growling out the call letters. Good lord.

Sad to see how far the Big One, the once proud "Nation's Station," has fallen. This is pathetic.

Wow where to start. Eddie is on vacation, one of his benefits as a Clear Channel employee. Plus I think I heard them say it was something planned long before he took the gig.

Second point, what is wrong with Tracy's voice?

As far as topics go, my problem with their show is they stick to one topic entirely too long. Plus I don't like the use of recycled interviews from hour 1 into hour 3.

As far as WEBN listeners being a bunch of "uneducated rednecks" that is a bit stereotypical and in this day and age I would say racist. I listen to WEBN, have an MBA, though did grow up in eastern Ky so maybe I'm an educated redneck, but don't really hear anything annoying out of Eddie.

Other critiques aside, when someone with Eddie's experience, timing and hands is off the ship for whatever reason, Tracy ought to have a babysitter...someone who has radio sense enough to move the show along.

Especially following a production the scope of Burbank, the show wihout Eddie is incredibly thin. Gary was anything but one voice and when it WAS one voice, it was his - a big contrast to Tracy. When Eddie is out, put a pro in to keep the plates spinning.

Really, tito....don't you think "racist" is a bit strong? And speaking of stereotyping....your comment seems to presume that if one is from eastern KY one might be a redneck. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...... ;-)

WLW listeners may not be automatically thought of as "uneducated rednecks" by most people, but it is obviously how they are thought of by the program director of the station. You can see that thinking at work with the new afternoon show now more than ever before.

Tracy by himself was a good idea, because it will make next weeks shows seem like Marconi winning broadcasts, and everyone can say how the show is getting better.

I suppose the ratings will tell the tale.

Personally, in the 3-6 slot, I listen to WLW as long as I can stand it, then usually switch to Hannity. But I usually can't take too much of him at all anymore because he is always just bashing someone. NPR in that time slot is nothing that great either as far as I remember.

My guess is that maybe there will just be more people not bothering to listen during that time slot.

Thank goodness for WLW's news department and weather, and Willie; without them they would be lost.

It's only been a couple of weeks!

I'm sure with your vast knowledge of the business you can just walk in and boom a 10 share, but these guys aren't as good as you.

Give them a chance to mesh...

Judge in 6 months....

You all hate the show, yet continue to listen.

Amazing.

Tito:

I'll agree with you on a lot of this. However, on "recycling bits", my I suggest you look at the average length of time the majority of listeners actually listen to a station. Even Gary Burbank recycled some bits during his show. If you play something, say, at 3:15 pm, you have (almost) an entirely different set of listeners at 5:45. You don't program to the people who listen for hours on end, you program to the majority of listeners who listen for 15-20 minutes at a time, then, with exceptional programming, bring them back for more "occasions of listening". That's how you play the Arbitron game.

Now, whether you (or anyone) considers the current post-burbank programming "exceptional" is up for argument here. Fire away...

And perhaps you've missed the point. DUH! I/we are listening less to WLW. Do you think that is welcome news to the folks at CC? And why are people tuning out? Not because it's not Burbank, but because it is bad radio.

Ultimately the ratings will steer the programming and WLW will probably still come out on top by default due to their big stick. That is sad really. CC owns the biggest AM signals in the market and there is nobody to compete with them. Do you think there is any motivation to improve the product?

Posts like yours always kill me. Are these boards only for positive, glowing comments or are we allowed to articulate our frustrations and offer blunt critiques if we think it's a bad product? You say nothing changes, yet look at all of the changes on the AM and FM dials in this market over the past couple of years. Problem is, a lot of the changes have not necessarily been good and have served only to cheapen the overall product. Radio continues to go downhill and fewer listeners even care any more because there are many other alternatives. Traditional terrestrial radio is in a desperate fight for its life that is becoming painfully obvious to the casual listener, not just the radio geeks on this board. And yet we look at the local moves by CC, as well as some of the moronic programming decisions by broadcasting companies across all markets, and ask 'this is how the industry is dealing with it?' They are overleveraged and now desperate. They will continue to cut to the bare bone until they are no longer relevant. I'd say they're getting pretty close now.

C'mon Tito, does every comment that someone doesn't like have to be labeled "racist". Do you have any idea how tired many of us are of terms like that being used to describe what some guy doesn't agree with. You should have been around when real racism did exist and than you would know the difference. Grow up.

I say -- Hey what happened to the guys who worked with Gary? I miss Duke Sinatra.
