Are the new owners of WPLJ (and every other station in the NYC market that has undergone a format change in the last few years) TRYING to drive me to satellite?? First, the drop the "Rocky Allen Showgram", which, for me was 'appointment radio' (if theres such a thing) during PM drive, but now there are subtle changes slowly taking place on the Big Show. I get that an occasional tweaking is needed to keep a show as long running as theirs fresh, but when your favorite features start to disappear, you begin to wonder. The last straw for me may have been the abrupt end to "Flush the Format Fridays", the last two weeks. For me, 'FTFF' was an all-too brief escape from the too often repetitive playlist heard at other times on the station (and I'm old enough to remember when Top 40 REALLY was Top 40). Times do change, and I get that radio IS a business. However, programmers must begin to realize that unlike back in the day, there are now format alternatives out there (re: XM & Sirius), sadly none of which exist now in the "terristrial" local NY market (If you don't believe me, just ask any oldies, standards, jazz or country fan living the the NY market without access to satellite). Local personalities are what kept me with "terrestrial" radio, but what will happen when the personalities are gone and people begin to see that there's no difference in the music?
