Where's George?

Yes, just couldn't resist putting out yesterday's teaser before the big reveal...

George brings his golden voice to the Game July 23. And not just to 102.5 the Game, but the Game Network, planned for at least a dozen stations! As for the show... It's back to Sports Night, in the same ol' afternoon slot. Watch for a few more details regarding the Game in general and the network specifically to be nailed down in the days ahead.

Good luck to George with his new employer. Hopefully he can dramatically improve the ratings there.
I think the network is a good idea, fashioned probably after the Paul Finebaum network.

George is the Finebaum of Tennessee. No, not in terms of personality or connections, but definitely in terms of pioneering sports talk radio in the state and proving longevity in the field. And becoming an icon. Whooda thunk it?

On July 2nd, Anderson Cooper proclaimed his independence and made his historic announcement. Perhaps in the spirit of fellowship, George will be a pioneer once again and follow in Anderson's footsteps and proclaim his own independence during his first show on July 23rd.

According to an article in this mornings "Nashville City Paper", the will be called "Sportsnight" and both Willie Daunic and Darren McFarland will be joining him on his afternoon. So does Greg Pogue move to mornings to replace Darren McFarland? If so, is there any way possible they can get David Coleman to co-host with him? It would be a VAST IMPROVEMENT over the Games current morning show hosts.

I seriously doubt David Coleman wants to get back into radio. I ran into him a couple of weeks ago at the Nashville Flea Market, where he was selling his line of barbecue products. After talking to him for a few minutes, he said he loves the fact he doesn't have to get up at 4am and go to work anymore. He has a full-time job and manufactures his barbecue stuff on the side, and he told me he was very happy with the way things are going right now.

They've announced some of the stations. Including AM's in Manchester, Murfreesboro and the biggest affiliate to date, Clarksville. Clarksville seems a bit redundant in that it's a town where you can actually hear the Game's signal.

Don't forget, that Murfreesboro AM can be heard on not just one, but two, FM translators.

Is this network just going to consist of station in the Mid-State area or will it be a more State-wide network like the "Steve Gill Show" tried a number of years ago? The reason I asks is if it is a true State-wide network, going into both the Eastern and Western parts of the state (Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, Tri-Cities), a lot of topics and subjects that George Plaster hold near and dear to his heart (Charles Davis Foundation, Belmont-Lipscomb Rivalry, MBA/BGA/Brentwood Acadamy/Mid-State High School athletics, ect.) doesn't have the same meaning in East Tennessee or West Tennessee as they do to George Plaster.

Hold on, jwk. This isn't Plaz's first rodeo in the west Tennessee area. The Director was voice of Memphis State Tigers sports around 1986. Although his tenure was one year, you can bet the low gravy Plaz added spice the Memphis market that still resounds today. I hate to do this caller, but I gotta run.

Is this 540 The Fan? They might actually want a program that is also heard on FM, even if it isn't their FM.

If they're going to be heard in the Queen City and the 'boro, they might want to add some Austin Peay and Middle Tennessee State coverage to the mix, and drop the high school coverage, except maybe at tournament and playoff times.

If he still calls it "Memphis State," he will be laughed out of the 901 area code! ;D

That was brought up yesterday afternoon on Murfreesboro's WGNS during their sports talk show. A caller stated that with the new Sports show coming on the air next week, all they will talk about is Tennessee and Vanderbilt, in which the host stated that if enough people from Rutherford County call and start asking about MTSU, they will have to start talking about the Blue Raiders.

That must be the host's misguided attempt at justifying dropping a local show in favor of Plaster. Blue Raiders fans can flood the Plaster phone lines all they want, but the show's producer and the call screener still won't let them on the air. The same goes for Austin Peay or Coffee County Central High, for that matter.

True: but if local advertisers start calling the sales office see how long any show stays on.

George opened the mic. Darren interrupted, walked across the studio screaming, "You're in my house now, Plaz. No more Mr. Agreement here," then pimp slapped The Director.

(Nah, not really. Darren would never disagree with Plaz.)

George is a talented Nashville legend and it is good to see someone willing to put some money into proven talent for a change while the others promote the interns to on air positions.

"George is a talented Nashville legend"
I believe George will do a great job outside of Nashville as well. He's a smart guy and knows what needs to be done.
Good luck on his network coverage. A little ambitious but give it time.
