It looks like they're having some big time network issues - their domain doesn't resolve nor can you connect to any of their hosted streams.

I just tried to connect, too, with no luck. I thought I'd try this board to see if anyone else had this problem, expecting you guys would be up on the situation, and you are. I need my fix.

I spent all week programing Oldies Radio Usa with over 1000 tracks. But it's not available today. I signed up for the VIP so i can hear my station without commercials.

I stream on there... and since this DCMA rule came out.....it's been a disaster or nightmare. I can't live stream with shoutcast metadata with my software. I'm thinking about relocating streamers. Hundred's of stations were removed from the directory including mine. I don't care about the BMI's anymore, I 've done the best as far as effort and time to comply. I get nothing but a virtual finger. Believe me , it's time for a civil war on the air or net.

All explained here - I was able to tweak to get back online:

I feel your pain! I use regular broadcast automation software written before streaming and such (yes, and it's DOS too!). One of my listeners is a master programmer and with my help he wrote an interface so I can be DMCA compliant with my stream until I can upgrade systems. I'm thinking about Prophet's Nexgen 101 for the changeover.

I have a very poor opinion of live365 and their technical team because of my past dealings with their operations. This doesn't surprise me.
______________

The problem is, the DMCA Law has been around forever.. Live365 has just started heavly inforcing the rules because of people breaking them and live365 being cought by Sound Exchange for not inforcing the rules. (not sending the DATA required by Sound Exchange -- Artist - Title - Album etc) This is part of the roryalty agreement.

If you broadcast legally anywhere you are going to be required to provide that data (either directly to sound exchange if you negociate a license with them or with whatever roryalty provider you choose, live365, swcast etc.. they all require the metadata to be sent)

The reason for live365 disapearing is apperently they are still messing with their router ( have been for months now ) and appernetly they changed the DNS servers at Network solutions for live365.com and accidently pointed EASYDNS as their primary/secondary and their servers as last so that messed up all the lookups for live365. Apperently they have corrected this (pointing their DNS as primary /secondary ) but it takes awhile for that to push across the entire internet. I suspect the DNS change happened because they are planning more router work this weekend according to their techincal forum. Moral of the story, when you update your DNS Record, Double check what your doing before you hit "submit" cuz once you hit submit, you could screw yourself for hours, and even days (depending on how long some ISPs' cache DNS results).

You can connect to Live 365 by adding 216.235.80.35 into your dns settings field, then reboot computer.

Yeah, just what I want to do. Entrust my ENTIRE internet surfing to live365.

Someone having a bad day at live365 could make you have a bad 7 years if they spoof the dns records correctly.
______________

Matt, the DMCA has only been law since late 1999. I blame Monica.

Secondly, sending track meta data is not necessarially a requirement of the actual law(read the actual boring statute rather than Live365's interpretation). However for services like Live365 it is really the only way they can report what has been played which is why its been written in their TOS. To legally broadcast completely independent of Live365 or Loud City who has the same requirements, you would need to manually report every song you played durring the reporting period (which I believe is a month) to Sound Exchange, and possibly BMI/ASCAP. Honestly if you invest in any decent automation program to cast live (SAM, NexGen, StationPlaylist, etc.) it shouldn't be a problem to send track data.

NexGen or whatever you have that talks to them, the bottom line is that Live365 is de-listing stations for not airing continuous, DMCA compliant playlists. That means _live_ talk programming is by default, non-compliant under their brain dead interpretation of the rules. They will consider granting exemption status for entire talk channels, however stations which play a mixture of music and live talk programming are fairly screwed at the moment. The unofficial work around is to submit bogus, compliant music playlists...literally.

Hi everyone:

NO F-N SH*T!! I wouldn't want to do that either.

And that's to say NOTHING about what that would do to my ability to connect to the Comcast network (Comcast being my ISP).

The many blog posts they have on the issue make me glad I don't broadcast with them anymore (I've gone the podsafe music route and host the streams myself via SHOUTcast servers on my home connection since I don't get that many people to begin with) :)

I have little doubt that (at least) Jeeper One Radio, my Talk/OTR station (if not 99 NUKE FM as well) had a sizeable increase in listenership this past weekend as a result.

I bet the techies were DOG TIRED after this.

Just rubbin' it in a little :) *Heheheh!* LOL

Cheers :)

You don't HAVE to use comcast name servers....in fact, comcast name servers are always causing me problems.

Manually specify 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3 or 4.2.2.4 as your name servers if you need alternate ones.
______________

For your talk segments you simply must ID it as ID/PSA in the Artist & Album fields. Then you should be OK.
