Where's that interchange? (WGN America/WGN-9 question)

I am a lifelong resident of the east coast and since 2000 have received what is now WGN America on DirecTV.

Every once in while I will tape (while I'm at work) WGN's noon CT/1 PM ET newscast. This to wistfully psyche myself up for (hopefully one day) the fulfillment of my dream to visit the Windy City (preferably by train).

Whenever I watch Tom Skilling's wx segments, I notice a time lapse footage of what looks like a suburban Chicago expressway/tollway interchange? Where is it? Any Chicagolanders recognize it? Which road is which?

Chicago was a great place to grow up.

I moved out to go to college in 1967, and have only visited, from time to time, since. I must say it's much CLEANER now that it was when I was a kid.

If I could give a tour to radio/tv folks, I'd eat alot. Chicago has fabulous food.

A few other ideas;

I'd visit the Sears Tower and Wrigley Building, visit WGN radio on Michigan Ave., see the "Bob Newhart" office building on the W Side of Michigan Ave, visit the Merchandise Mart (once home to WMAQ Radio (radio history like Amos & Andy) and WNBQ-tv, Visit 2501 W Bradley Place (WGN-TV) but they won't let you tour any more. THAT is the building where WGN America's live stuff originates.

Visit 190 N State (WLS radio and tv and conglomerate crap) Visit the WLS transmitter site (in Tinley Park) and the Museum of Broadcasting (unsure of Chicago location).

Other spots of interest; Visit Wrigley Field and the "Biograph Theatre" where John Dillinger met his end, also see the site of the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" at 2122 N. Clark near Diversey.

You must take a ride on "Lake Shore Drive" (it's beautiful especially near sunrise) also ride the Ravenswood "L" and the "Logan Square subway (new names not known). Get in a traffic mess between O'Hare and downtown.

Finish off w/the Museum of Science & Industry (WOW!) and the Art Institute (to see "American Gothic") so you'll end on a "high note."

Have fun.

Now, go back home to sanity and turn on your radio. You can say, "I've been there."

One persons dream is another persons nightmare! Crowds, taxes, political corruption and traffic remind me to stay where I'm at. It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

As a listener for 50+ years I can say that WGN radio is the best radio station in the US, and sounds just as good 150 miles away.

Sorry, but I have no idea about "the interchange" you mention.

Boy, am I a geezer.

Well, now that I think about it (and about my AAA CityMap of Chicago)- this is just a guess, but I reckon that interchange, judging by the flyovers, connects I-294 (running away from the camera, underneath everything) with I-90, near O'Hare.

Having just visited MapQuest, I've concluded that that is the aforementioned interchange, but at a different angle. The road on the bottom of the stack I believe to be I-90 heading towards northwest Cook County and beyond that, Rockford.

You may have been sorted out with the Nigerians. A guy like that gets 2 thousand e-mails a day (that's what the wgn radio talent gets). Maybe Skilling gets more. You might try the phone or as letter.

WGN has cameras that can see several different interchanges. If it looks like the camera is pointed straight down at an interchange, it's the intersection of I-90/94 and I-290 as shot from the Sears Tower. If the interchange is more flattened out, then it's likely the intersection of I-90 and I-294 near O'Hare airport where WGN has a camera on a tower.

There are many other possibilities, but these are the ones most commonly seen.
