Where's the "new" WDXX?

Thought this station was changing formats Aug 1? Wonder what's up. Maybe the "petition to deny" has them stalling. Hard to say you need more power to serve your city of license when you have billboards, facebook posts and sales pieces saying your Montgomery's New FM. Just a thought.

I'm wondering the same thing.

Hope the change will soon occur.

This waiting business is getting very old.

As a post on the other board says, we're just day away til college football season starts. The Tide doesn't have a decent affiliate in the state's 2nd largest city. Meanwhile, "The Famlee" (awbun) is on a 100,000 watt FM and the city's best (on paper) AM signal. This will not go over well in T-Town.

Roll Tide anyway. Hoping CBS or ESPN will pick up all the games.

Was Tide football supposed to move to WDXX exclusively, or something? The affiliate list shows WXFX as Montgomery's football station. WXFX plus WDXX plus WMXA Auburn are a pretty good black belt combo of stations in my opinion. I don't think the general public necessarily equates prestige with a 100 kW FM signal like we do. The I-65 corridor is solid thanks to strong WJOX and WHPH in Clanton.

That said, the Alabama network does seem to be pretty weak in some areas. For example, in Tuscaloosa, they're on WTSK 790 and WFFN 95.3. That FM is basically a rimshot (albeit a pretty good one these days) in UA's own town. I'm not sure a portable in the stadium could even pick it up clearly. And WTSK is almost non-existent at night with just 36 watts. Here in Darwin's Waiting Room, Mobile has to make do with WZEW, which leaves out some of Baldwin County unless you've got a super radio. Head to Pensacola and you're pretty much out of luck unless Ft. Walton's Ticket is blowing in.

The network's biggest station after JOX is probably 98.5 in Tupelo, which has a monster signal. But beyond that, it shrinks considerably (WDXX or WFXX Georgiana are probably the next biggest, power-wise.) And on a silly note, they show an AM/FM combo in Tallahassee, but it's WACQ. That's Tallassee. ::)

The power cutback to 40KW from 50KW does not make hardly any difference in the coverage of the station WDXX. In Montgomery many parts of town the signal is dropping out or non-viable. AND the station was poorly engineered for maximum coverage. Most of the Montgomery translators serve a greater metro population than WDXX. This is someone's pipe dream!

Don't forget WINL 98.5 Linden, which is a 100kw C1. It's easily the strongest in that southwest portion of Alabama.

Alabama network is weak in Huntsville as well. Its on 4 different frequencies here. 770am/92.5fm and 730am/103.9fm. 92.5 is a rimshot into Huntsville and 103.9 is a translator that is weak in several areas of the county. The AMs are strong (atleast during the day) but everyone looks for an FM to listen to first. I've always thought Cumulus would be much better off putting the WVNN FM simulcast on the bigger signal 93.3 instead of 92.5 with WVNN being as successful as they are. I guess that makes too much sense though and Cumulus isn't in the business of doing things that make sense. Anyways, Alabama football needs a bigger more relieable signal in Huntsville too. WUMP has traditionally always been the Alabama station here so I don't ever see Cumulus giving up the rights for it unless Alabama decides to go with someone else themselves.

BTW, I don't really understand the 95.3 WFFN being a rimshot for Tuscaloosa comment. When I was down there last season for a game the station came in very strong for me. I just looked at the map to confirm and it looks like a strong city grade signal for Tuscaloosa. Has something changed?

It's been a few years since I remember hearing the station so that's entirely possible. I don't remember it being that strong of a local the last time I was down there (right after the tornado last year) but I wasn't exactly taking notes, either. I must stand corrected on this, then, because that is definitely not a rimshot anymore, if it ever was.

Oh well, trying to keep up with every station I'm bound to make a few dozen mistakes here and there. :D

I wonder if and when U of A would decide to start offering softball on a network basis? I know WVUA currently announces softball (and gymnastics) exclusively. Gymnastics is not an ideal sport for play by play, but softball could be, and with a national championship in hand and more possible in the future - you never know. I bet they get more listeners on 90.7 and on the internet than the women's basketball team does/did.

Zach, I know what you mean. It all tends to run together on you sometimes doesn't it lol! I don't remember if the station had a fairly recent move that improved coverage or if it's always been that way. Someone in that area would certainly be able to provide better prospective that I can.

Now for more breaking news from WDXX land.

I heard that Doug and Josh have jumped ship and will be on the new 93.1FM. Lot of finger pointing going on about why the Selma move in, hasn’t moved in. Understand that the sales gypsy girl is having to tap dance around when the station will come on. Advertisers unhappy.

This was taken from Montgomery TV and Radio.

Is there any truth to this info?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Not True unless Mr. gower plans to drop Greg and susan (their biggest cash crop) from the morning slot.

93.1 already has a full slot during the day, i see no reason to drop laura ingram.

Just heard them say starting this Friday night, they will be doing local high school football again. The new name of their games will be, now get this, "The River Region Friday Night Football Fever". The first game will be down in Troy. Morgan Academy of Selma will be traveling to play that game. Catch it this Friday on Dixie 100.1 FM, starting at 6:30 P.M. I believe. They are going to do a high school football scoreboard show, following the game too. It will be a new edition of it. I'm assuming this edition will also cover the games being played in the River Region too.

P.S. The long awaited changes for WDXX may now be happening. If I hear anything else, I'll be sure to post it here.

Just heard them use the term "River Region" in more of their new commercial spots.  This station is going all out to become a Gump player, although their signal will be weak.

"River Region friday night football fever" ...damn that's mouth full....and kinda stepping on WSFA's toes as they already have a tv show called friday night football fever...

Now get this: I could hear them in the Taylor Road area today.  This is while I was sitting in the parking lot, waiting for my mother to tend to her doctor appointments.  Heard Mr. George Henry say the new 100.1 FM will be coming soon.  He didn't say when it would happen though.  My truck radio must have a very powerful tuner and/or the winds were blowing right Mr. Zach. (Ha Ha!!!)  :D

R.D.P. <><

P.S. And yes Kate 99.9 FM from Tallassee was coming in real good, as well.
