Where's WAKY?

All I've heard on Oldies WAKY-FM (103.5 MHz, Radcliff) is silent carrier for the last couple of days. Anybody know what's up with the station?

I was surprised when I read your post. Off and on all weekend I've listened to WAKY and never heard them silent. Just checked and they are sounding fine and running the "Rewind" show.

I wasn't imagining things...at four seperate checks over the weekend, there was dead air. Perhaps there was an interruption on the automation, or audio signal was interrupted to their Louisville-area synchronous booster/translator, the way many of us up here in Jefferson County get WAKY clearly.

I didn't think I was hearing things...right now I'm hearing a musical backup file with music only and no spots or announcers-only oldies, with only occasional stingers or other imaging.

Just like a good station should, they've got a default programming source up to feed their Louisville booster while (assuming here) they are trying to re-establish their audio link with Radcliff's main studio. (@ 0950 Monday, 10/29/12)

They turned that off a couple of years ago. It's no longer licensed per the FCC database.

They are coming in fine downtown. I heard an oldie and a jingle, for what it's worth.

Just in to the King Bee Newsroom...the silent carrier signal that masked WAKY-FM (103.5 MHz) when I was checking now appears to be the Phoenix Hill FM Pirate (east downtown and Lower Highlands Louisville, circa Baxter Ave., Lexington Rd., Grinstead Dr.) who periodically plays uncensored hip-hop and commentary. Caught them again this week on several occupied FM frequencies.

If some of you posters remember I ran into their signal a couple of years ago and posted details on them...way above Part 15 power limits, with reception deep into the western side of Louisville's CBD.

WAKY ever return to the airwaves yet? WHHT-103.7 covers them up down here, But I do listen to them when I up in Louisvilleland.

Was this pirate broadcasting on 106.5 at one point?

I'm sure he/she was...I even caught it at about 91 MHz in the non-commercial side for about 10 minutes with silent carrier, all the way up to 107.9 for about 5 minutes.

I went to listen to WAKY last night around 10PM and there was nothing but a silent carrier.Must be what everyone was talking about.Someone is jamming the signal at times.
