Where's WBZ Radio When...

I'm concerned about our all-news station in Boston. Where was WBZ last night when the health care story was breaking? They were playing infomercials. Where's WBZ on Sunday morning when I wakeup late and want to hear the news? Playing an infomercial financial show. I'm stuck in a traffic jam at 6:30 at night and want to hear what's going on? WBZ plays TV news with Katie Couric and eliminates Traffic on the 3s. There's no consistency with the station. I'm very disappointed and disappointment in general with all-news stations across the country, who are increasingly carrying other programming.

You're absolutely right! Give Citadel some credit, as Chicago's WLS elected to forgo carrying Bill Cunningham's syndicated Sunday night show and to go live and local instead. WBZ absolutely should have done the same thing.

And they run good newsradio operations in other major cities, KYW-AM in Philly and WINS-AM in NYC are 2 that come to mind that don't do that, old Westinghouse sister stations.

There is no excuse for the amount of paid programming running on the station. If live and local is too costly on weekends why could they not run "best of" NightSide from the preceding week? At least it would leave the option for a live broadcast when news warrants as it did last night.

Wasn't the NPR station in Boston covering it live? I wasn't listening to radio at all last night, so i don't know what my local NPR was doing.

WBZ had live and local coverage with Jordan Rich show and supplemented by CBS News radio reports between 10p and 12am. HCR passed at 10:47pm so they never missed the big story.

WBZ is the most boring, most poorly executed all news station in America. It's not all news, it's a series of half hour programs that begin with news. Give me John Lynker and Bruce Lee and reporters in the field who knew what they were doing and who covered news, not just events

A bit of an overstatement. While they have definitely lost access to a lot of resources in recent years, they are still the best station on AM in Boston and probably all of New England.

Newspapers have gotten thinner, Local TV is doing less, magazines are closing, and radio is dealing with dwindling income. So, like other radio stations, they have made cuts.

But, in spite of the cuts, they are still one of the most useful stations in Boston.

Personally, I always liked the old WEEI (590) and WCBS (880) all news formats, with features at :20, :20, :40 & :50. I always thought WINS was a tad boring....just reading news...without features.
