Where's WHYN-FM in The Hartford Ratingsz?

There are three full-power commercial FM stations in Springfield that cover the Hartford market with their signals: Classic Rock 102.1 WAQY, which is #10 in the recent Hartford ratings; AC 94.7 WMAS, which is #16; and Hot AC 93.1 WHYN-FM, which doesn't show in the Hartford ratings.

How can a full-signal station in Springfield not show in the Hartford ratings? It's owned by Clear Channel, so it isn't an issue that the station doesn't subscribe to Arbitron. Some years ago when AM listening was much stronger, WHYN AM 560 used to be a top 10 station in the Hartford ratings. That station also fails to make the Hartford ratings, although with lower AM listening, I can understand that.

Even non-commercial 88.5 WFCR, the Western Massachussettes NPR and Classical station, shows in the Hartford ratings at #20. Why is WHYN-FM missing?

There was something last year where CC Hartford shut off the PPM encoders for the CC Springfield stations because Kix 97.9 was beating YZ. So I would assume they shut off Mix's encoder too. If the station isn't encoded, a meter won't pick it up. Thus, no Springfield stations showing up in the Hartford book. Seems like cookin' the books to me.

Really? In the whole Hartford market? 97.9, as WPKX, was a fringe signal south and east of Hartford. I could see CC trying to "cook the books" if YZ was beating Kix in Springfield -- and even that would be extremely unlikely to happen -- but not the other way around.

Well, now that WPKX has been brought up, that station also failed to make the Hartford ratings under those call letters. Yes, 97.9 was transitioning to Sports from Country at that time, and relocating from the Springfield market to the Hartford market. And the new Sports station, WUCS, does make the Hartford ratings but at the VERY bottom of the list. That doesn't make any sense either. How could an ESPN affiliate with a good Hartford-area FM signal wind up with the lowest ratings possible to still be mentioned, even if it is new?

I also notice the Springfield ratings have been embargoed for the last four years. Something's very odd here.

The conversion from Springfield to Hartford for WPKX (now WUCS) only happened in late January, so the new station isn't even in the last ratings book.

Not sure what you are looking at. WPKX makes this book with 0.1 AQH and 11,300 cume.

Springfield ratings are embargoed because not everyone in the market buys the book every book and Arbitron doesn't want to release their data (even just 12+ numbers) so that the non-subscribers can see. Don't expect the ban to be lifted any time soon, or ever, for that matter. Similar situation to New London.

So when Country 92.5 was putting up the best numbers in the history of the station - hell, the frequency - it was because Kix 97.9's encoder was off?
