Wherever Spider is VTing from

I'll bet there's a Hickory Hills St. or Rd. or area. Twice today in about a minute he gave the directions to Pool & Spa Depot as take Hickory Hills Rd to The Crossings. It's near Hickory Hills Mall, I hear.

Also, yesterday telling me what a beautiful day it was, it was cloudy and drizzling-

There is a Hickory Ridge Mall (or at least there was ::)) in the Hickory Hill area of Memphis.

Spider should know better. He used to live here. I have heard him do "shout-outs" to locations all over middle Tennessee (Hendersonville, Portland, etc.), and it just seemed to me that he is trying too hard to "sound local."

Just curious..how much money are they saving by having it VT'D..versus a live jock during midday ?? The quality of the VT is not good at all...But I guess it doesn't matter to the great Nashville unwashed whether it's live....or Spiderex ::)

In think it matters. I wish it was better. Spider may not be living up to what the original intent was expected to be. It has been a longtime. VTing is a nightmare.

Likely saving a lot.. You factor in a live jock at 20k a year [plus all the benefits, etc.] or get someone to track it for like $120 a week or something.. clearly Vt saves them a Lot more money. [Which is why most stations VT to begin with].

I wouldnt mind the VTing, if I could just get a better signal when im out and about. You hear a good song but its ruined by all the static.

I remember listening to Spider on WLAC-AM back in his heyday. It's not the same. DJs will VT for only $120 a week??

I know guys doing it for $300/ month. Just depends on the market size. I had a friend who was making 20K a year VTing a Detroit station a few years ago.

This whole conversation is hilarious, in light of "Mork" McGill's accusations that Spider left a half-eaten candy bar in the studio a couple of weeks ago! ;D Even the guys who may be local don't sound local because of their accents!

A couple of gaffes that I have heard lately: A McGill VT ran about 10 minutes too early yesterday, as he back-announced a song that he was yet to play. It aired again (in correct sequence) about 10 minutes later.

A Joe Case back-announce played twice in a row on Saturday. It played (correctly) then immediately played again!

Casey Kasem's AT40 from this week in 1974 never finished airing yesterday, so we'll never know what was #1 this week back then! (Actually, I know, but it still would have been nice to be able to hear the rest of the program!)

Unfortunately, mistakes of this nature can even be caught by everyday listeners who are not radiophiles, because they are so obvious.

Perhaps the saddest part is for many moons we have discussed the lack of a good playlist..both deep and wide...on previous Nashville "oldies" (hate that term) stations..now here comes a station that has such a playlist...yes perhaps not as deep as most of us would format...but much better than anything that came before..and the station is so lacking in depth concerning anything real radio..low power, no promotion, no local talent, nothing to identify with Nashville..and owned , if I'm told correctly, by non radio people..yes they're giving it their best shot...but somehow...I just don't feel like it's gonna work.......make no mistake..I'm pulling for it...but we all know what it takes..both on the air..and on the street...

That's good... getting out in the public..but they're limited to their coverage area for appearances ..which means they won't be getting very far East of Downtown..Has anyone tried to pick the station up inside an office building ?? Headed East every morning around 5:30 am..I hit splatter about the Highway 109 exit...I can get Vol State til I go under the Alexandria overpass...then it just cuts off...

I can pick up Hippie in my car all the way to Springfield (Robertson Co.), taking I-65 to 41 or Whites Creek Pike through Joelton. The other day I heard MarKK McGill intro a request over the intro of the wrong song. The mentioned song played next.

If a Nashville gets heard all the way out to the 109 exit, I would say that that's a pretty damn good signal! ;) They're covering the city, aren't they? Isn't 109 almost to Lebanon? That's a very good signal, considering that their tower is over here on my side of town.

Picnic! Hey? Dudes.... They'll be in Tie-Die Tees.... The smell of incense and peppermints and Herb.. He will be the smelly one.... They will dance and frolic as the Druids have and serve Mexican Coca-Cola in bottles and sing "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing" by the New Seekers....Then in a rash of opposites, we will all sing Country Joe and the Fish.... Wonn, Tuu, Three...What'a We Fightin' For? Don't Care, 'Cause I Don't Giva' D@#m, Next Stop Is Af-gana-stan, Man! Children of the Flowers and Weed.... Why not some more gentle tunage from Little River Band, Paul Davis and such?

They are also promoting a live broadcast from Brentwood Jewelry from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. this coming Saturday, cross-promoting that whole "diamond a day in the month of May" contest, and they are also claiming in one of their commercials that they will be doing a live broadcast from one of their favorite advertisers, Pool and Spa Depot, and that is clear over in Antioch!

I should have said "a Nashville station" there, but I think all of y'all figured that out! 8) (corrected here)

I do get it up to the 109 exit..but it's not very strong..i listen just to see what they play..always a good selection and not the same stuff every morning at the same time....i sincerely hope they can make it in town..they are plugging a station with "real DJ'S in a promo i heard coming back into town around 11:15..BTW the signal is no where near as strong coming back into town as it is going out in the mornings..
