Whether Intentional or Accidental, $5000 Is Alotta Money!

In 1993, some ?unremembered? Consultant suggested to ROQ management that the way to increase the TSL is to sweep 16 songs, commercial free, and guarantee them commercial free, with/backed by a $5000 listener pay-off. Then, I didn't nessessarily disagree, and for the first two years, it seemed to work well. I also remember two(maybe 3) announcers that Oafed...went to the toliet(way down the hall)...and didn't count correctly. Whether Intentional or Accidental, $5000 Is alotta Money! Recently, Rock 101 dropped the money guarantee, and boosted the sweep count up to 20 songs. Now, it's a 20-song Music Marathon, but it's not guaranteed...with anything.
Well,...that's not nessessarily true. It is guaranteed to be 20 of the same wore-the-hell out, burnt, toasted, 409 songs that they normally play!

Rockdoc,...thank you so much for pitchin' in. It is good to hear from you, my brother.
For those that might be unaware, Rockdoc is one of the best programming minds on the face of God's green earth! As for The 16-Song Music Marathon, Guaranteed by $5000,...
In the beginning, (Yes!) it was a very good idea,...that worked very well, even when someone Oafed, and accidentally gave away the money. However, it worked best, when you could secretly schedule it: In the 7am hour or the 4pm hour, the Tuesday, before Black Friday. In the middle of a hard Winter worked well too. Truthfully, it was a good idea, that was carried on way too long. WROQ had not gave away the money in well over a year, and the listeners were aware of the apparent Sluff! I'm sure that management didn't want the risk any longer. Heck...$5000 is an entire year's salary for some outta town voice tracker. They (as you know) are much cheaper than a Live...Human! Syndi shows are cheaper too...Truthfully, John Boy & Billy have been on too long, as well! Hey!...it's just the Truth.

With times as hard as they are now you could have a song marathone of whatever number and back it with just a hundred dollars and people would listen to see if you mess up for the money, it wouldn't have to be 5000 dollar today. These kinds of ideas do remind me of what radio use to be like.
