WHGB Automation

I realize running ESPN Radio 24/7 can't be much of a local programming challenge, but I'm amazed at local mistakes during the handful of shows per week from the Penn State Sports Network. For example, during "Nittany Lion Hotline", a top of the hour station ID completely missed. My favorite was a PSU men's basketball game a couple months ago that was nothing but 2 hours of dead air. The local game intro came on......and then nothing. (we flipped it on going into my son's scout meeting, and heard the same dead air nearly 2 hours later). There are often times when a 2-minute PSU update around 5:25pm is several days old.

That guy who sells stuff on TV..Ron Popeill,,says "Set It and Forget It" when it comes to that oven he pitches.

Unfortunately, many radio stations today take that same approach..particularly the ones who run aitomated talk programming.

In the case of WHGB, let's put the blame where it really belongs....Cumulus corporate.

Nationally, this is the company who cut around 16 percent of it's workforce or 1 in 6 employees in 2009.

Locally, in both York and Harrisburg, the two clusters appear to have been well above the company average..more like 1 in 3. There probably is not someone watching WHGB as closely as they should be, due to staffers wearing 5 other hats.
