WHGG "MIghty 1090"

Good to see some that like the "Mighty 1090". I think it resembles the old
1590 WJSO. Now that was a station! Been wanting to hear something like for a
long time. Cincinnati had one about a year ago with "Real Oldies 1530 WSAI".
Their 50,000 watt torch sounded great with 50's and 60's. The children at
Clear Channel decided to go with liberal BS of Jerry Springer. Oh'well, so much for good radio. Here's an idea for Sirius or XM: Playboy Radio, duh?

I hope they have a backup plan. The oldies format seems to be fading
fast. To put it on AM these days seems questionable at best. Obviously
Clear Channel gave up on it working in Cincinatti. Need I bring up
WCBS FM? I wish WHGG the best as I still enjoy the music, but I wonder
if the station won't go Spanish or religion after a year or two.

Can I say this?

SPORTS!

WKIN- which shouldn't get any ratings at all- is now showing up in the Tri-Cities book simply by just running ESPN all day and simulcasting Bill Meade's show.

They don't have the signal to reach anywhere- and they are still showing up.

Granted, you'd need to establish a real host on the air, but why nobody else has picked this up I'll never know.

Has WHGG had an ownership change???The old owners don't have very deep pockets to pay John Young to voice the station or maintain indefinitely a negative cashflow on a poorly promoted yet great soundung AM oldies station.

Oldies on AM

I think AM is the perfect place for the oldies format. It is where the music started. The oldies listeners will listen to AM quicker than younger people. And, with today's technology, AM can sound just as good as FM.

When a large market FM station pulls the plug on the oldies format the suburban AM stations can benefit from that with a switch to oldies.

In Portland, OR Entercom moved the oldies format of KKSN to 910 AM when Adult Hits, Charlie-FM, took over 97.1. Clear Channel still has Real Oldies 1690 AM WRLL in Chicago where WJMK was hi-Jacked.

> Dude! Here's the poop on WKIN. It(not "they",a station is not a "they")was an
AM-FM combo deal with WKOS. It was bought by Bloomington, now Citadel around 90' or 91. As for a "real host", Bill Meade is the host. Nothing wrong with
simulcasting a top show in the market. Guess who else does that. Can you say
W-F-H-G? If you want to be the "host" call Las Vegas and they'll put you on
WKIN for a steal. I'm not being rude just telling it like it is.
