Last week this Havre de Grace station changed its name from "The Point" to "Smash Hits", music remains almost the same with mostly forgotten tracks from the 70's and 80's and once in a while a today hit.
Maybe it's a bit more pop but still IMHO playing the wrong mix, for example today they played "I wanna be a cowboy" from Boys Don't Cry and then the latest Justin Timberlake hit.
I'm trying to like this station, I love small stations trying to make their place on the airwaves, but most of the time I end up changing.
I think "The Point" was a great name, don't know why they changed it.

Whatever the case, the station had better damned well find itself if it plans to succeed! Two format changes - even if this last one was more subtle - in less than two years is not a good thing; especially for a small-town station. I thought they had a good thing going with the standards format, but I guess it couldn't take hold.
This is the reason for the change (well maybe not a good reason but none-the-less, a decision the station made) per dcrtv.com:
6/6 - Harford County oldies outlet, 104.7 The Point, which is also heard on 1330 AM, flipped this morning to "Smash Hits WHGM." This morning, the station also debuted a new morning show hosted by Justin Mallow. He comes from contemporary hits WKBE in Glens Falls NY. The Smash Hits 1980s-based oldies hits format is the product of DC and Baltimore radio veteran Jason Kidd's New Generation Media. Kidd does afternoons on DC's hot adult contemporary Mix 107.3, WRQX..
