A brief (as I can make it) history of WHHT
106.7 WHHT-FM (Cave City) signed on as a Class A around Sept 1988 as "Hottest Hits FM. It was a hot rocking CHR that covered all of "Hitland"
In the early 90's, they upgraded the power (25000 ERP) and moved down the dial to 103.7. The format became more of an Hot AC...or at least a very dayparted CHR. "The Hottest Hits of All Time"
Around 1994, the name was converted to Mix103 to compete more heavily in the AC Bowling Green market aginst "the Gator" WBLG
Also around the mid 90's, Newberry Broadcasting reapplied for the original freq at 106.7...calls were WXPC licenced to Horse Cave...they did WW1 satelitte Oldies
After Telcom 1996, and Newberry became Commonwealth Broadcasting....103.7 was reformated to classic rock and the calls changed to WPTQ (1037 The Point). The WHHT calls were moved to the original 106.7 frequesncy...the oldies dumped...and AC Mix106.7 was on the air
a few months later, CBC started leasing 100.7 WKLX in BG and wanted to do a CHR/Adult top 40 format there...so in order not to compete...WHHT converted to a hot country station (Thunder106.7) complete with NASCAR coverage.
In the late 90's, the hot country format was dumped to go to a classic country still with the moniker Thunder106.7.
Around 2003, AC was back with a very broad playlist as Magic106.7.
This was dumped about 2 years later with SAM (jack format)
And NOW...they've swaped formats with 100.7 WKLX.....100.7 being SAM and 106.7 now STAR-FM....
Basically, WHHT has the weakest FM signal in the Bowling Green/Glasgow CBC cluster and gets shuttled around alot. Very sad considering what a great station the original Hottest Hits was.
