Which ABC oldies format do you think will win?

ABC has two (2) oldies formats: "Oldies Radio" and Scott Shannon's "True Oldies". Which of the 2 oldies formats do you think will win?I think Scott Shannon's "True Oldies" will win because Scott Shannon is an exceptional man and the phrase "True Oldies" makes me think that the phrase "Oldies Radio" refers to fake oldies.

Oldies radio has more appeal to me because there are different air personalities. Becasue Scott Shannon is the voice for Sean Hannity he now identifies with a political viewpoint. When I listen to oldies I want to enjoy them and not be reminded of a political viewpoint.Scott Shannon is like an overexposed actor. If he was not the voice of Hannity and just a music personality his format would have a more exclusive sound and one could enjoy the time shift fantasy more.Chris

Win? How?ABC (and other syndicators) offer multiple formats. Stations chose.Oldies is dying as a format.Satellite-delivered oldies will only be heard on a small number of small, automated stations.ABC, Jones, WW1 and the rest don't need to sign up that many stations to see Black ink.

oldies format

not sure either of these will really "win".Now, even Clear Channel has announced they have at least 2-3 oldies format choices in their HD offerings and they recently announced they're making these 24-hour formats available to ANYBODY, not just cc stations.

Well, musically, I like "TRUE Oldies" better. Not the world's greatest playlist IMO, but not bad. Unfortunately, the presentation is boring. Nothing against Scot Shannon, but he needs to do a live shift and put some other dj's on there..Personality-wise, "Oldies Radio" is much better. They sound like they're actually having fun on there. The problem with them is that they seem to be playing the same burned out oldies over and over.Combine "True Oldies'" Music and "oldies Radio's" personality, and you'd have a pretty good format.

Just because I like somebody's music, doesn't mean I think they know anything - or that I'm interested in their opinions. Their job is to entertain me; what they do on their own time, is their business. And what does any of this have to do with Oldies radio?I didn't accept the premise of the original topic but at least with was about Oldies and about radio. All nostalgia formats are age driven. People form their music tastes at a "certain age." People keep listening to the "music they grew up with." This applies to Standards, Real Oldies, Oldies (Gold), Jammin' Oldies, 80's, Classic Rock and Classic Hits. The premise of the original post was one format is better than the other. No, one format targets your age segment and your "formative years" better than the others. Of course, many people on this board equate personal preference (what they like) with some objective standard of quality (my music is good; your music is bad).

Johnny Donovan is the voice of most of the bits on the Rush Limbaugh show. He also does that great WABC rewind show over Memorial Day. Are you not going to listen to Johnny because he does those bits? Please, get a life. I still watch Saturday Nite Live even though there are a few people formerly associated with that show now on Air America.....

A station I used to work for carried the Oldies Radio format. Not bad, but the same songs over and over. And the personalities were not all that great. Now that station has picked up the Scott Shannon channel. Much more variety, nice blend and Scott livens it up with great features. He also DOES have a live segment many days during the afternoon.

What are the call letters of that station?

Musically, True Oldies puts in enough of the "a-ha!" songs to keep the more active listeners happy while still playing the standbys to keep it familiar (just not overplaying them). Sure, Shannon has his eccentricities with the playlist but it's still solid and listenable.I just don't like a lot of the imaging and production--Shannon's voice shouldn't be on *any* sweeper, the jingles need to be brightened up and the production is too grungy and lasery for my tastes. I would also do away with the bootlicking sidekick--I don't know this guy adds to the show. But perhaps he's only doing what ABC can allow him to do.
