Which CC station becomes OLDIES?

With the recent departure of WRKA from the Oldies format, which Clear Channel Station will flip to OLDIES? WRKA made good money with Oldies, and you figure that any of the lesser performing CC FM siganls would cover the market better than WAKY. So Which will it be??????

If it (WRKA) made good money why change would you change formats?

I dont really see a station jumping the gun to go Oldies. Remember, even though WAKY is a rimshot..its still audible and filling a niche.

I would say a decent sum of WRKA listeners will find joy in the new 103.9. It wont be a TSL magnet, but it should help with pulling cume. I assume a lot of sharing will go on between WAKY and LEGENDS.

Maybe Louie will slide over in the 70's category a little more often to help fill the void.

I hope not...

I've changed my mind, WAMZ should go after B96 as Urban "Z 97.5". That will make room for "Real Oldies 84 WHAS".

But seriously, WAKY will serve the audience well. Besides, the corporate VP's and consultants won't allow the format. However, the WAKY's owners know how to make it work.

The "oldies" format as we've always known it (50's and 60's based hits) is being relegated to the AM band and I'm sure we'll see more of that in the future. It seems Cox is really steering away from the format and I don't see much in the way of support in Clear Channel, either. The Classic Hits or Classic Top 40 will be the new oldies of the FM band. Give that about 10 to 15 years, then we'll see the 80's and 90's as the new oldies. Hell, by then lord knows what the radio landscape will look like.

I'm waiting for the day we can get 80's & 90's hip hop & R&B!

That would be a cool format - just wonder how sellable it would be. Throw in all that old school rap like Curtis Blow, Run DMC, etc - plus mix in the Bel Biv Devoe, De La Soul, Keith Sweat - you'd have ya a nice sound

Exactly!

Not in los angeles its called kday hip hop from today and back in the day but since they inherited some of the old radio one property there i do not know what sound they have now but i can tell you from being there the movin station out there does not play hip hop/rap from today and back in the day. Emmis made a huge mistake out there two years ago flipping country to movin
