also, does anyone know who or what imaging house star 99.1 in ny/nj is using???

Suprisingly they use their in house production team! There weekend Jock Abel Sanchez does most of it.

I hope he's referring to the quality of the work rather than the branding presence in the imagers.

Absolutely! I meant quality not branding presence. detail, sound, etc... the more mainsteam a station's image sounds the more likely that station is to attract non-christian listeners.

cause unfortunately a lot of christian station let brother Bob who bought some editing software do image and that's never good. cheap but never good.

how good is your source for information?
I ask because they've never made an announcement of hiring a new Creative services director or even announced the re-instatement of the position since the illimination of it. And their imaging has had improved drastically since the position was done away with.
It sounds out sourced.

Abel's a good friend of mine, that's how I know. I used to listen to his Saturday Night Praise party on Star 99.1 which was awesome, and we struck up a report.

Hopefully Star has a good back up plan... in my 18 yrs of Christian radio experience i've seen a lot of good imaging guys like that gets lured away with the almighty $

I believe LIFT FM has the best imaging in Christian Radio. They (We) don't broadcast the
typical positive "hits jingles".

You can listen to the station at www.liftfm.com

take care. Joe

The thing with imaging people is that they are what they are for two reasons. Number one, they have talent. Number two, the radio station gives them the tools they need to build good imaging. When an imaging person leaves, the tools by law must stay with the station. The best car mechanic in the world is nothing without tools.I know a couple of guys who took (stole) the sound effects, production library, etc, and were sued for doing so. Ruined their careers. Most, if not all, production tools are owned by the radio station.

Is LIFT FM elevator music?

the best imaging????

I like the imaging from-

Way FM - Grand Rapids

Radio U - Columbus

The Kross - Tulsa

KDUV - Visalia

WNAZ - Nashville

I've seen a couple of votes for different WAY-FM's. I cast a third. Their image projects youth, creativity, and energy. Even if their playlist is little more than Hot-AC, the imaging gets across the message "this ain't Christian radio for old religious fogies".

WORST imaging, by the way, is KSBJ: for arrogantly proclaiming God listens to them. I've been saying this for years. It comes across WRONG.

Way FM

Way FM Grandrapids really is the only Way FM targeting young people. They are not owned by the Way FM Network. They are owned by a Christian college.

The Way FM Network is more of a hot ac format. They pipe in network programming to all their other stations except Denver. The Denver Way FM is a bit more CHR than the other Way FM stations, but they are targeting adults. My understanding is that the local stations have local morning shows and are able to tailor some of the imaging and promotions to the area, but most of it is set by the network.

Bruce...Iti's obvious that they're not claiming that God listens to their radio station. It's an obvious play on words. And their audience obviously gets that fact.

It's more of a proclaimation of God's attributes than anything. You know "God is listening...to YOU."

Get to personally know the gang at KSBJ and you'll see their real heart.

That heart for ministry comes across on the air and it's apparent that people understand that.

The LAST word I would ever used to describe KSBJ leadership is arrogant. They're a great bunch of people who are commited to loving people and treating them right.

I'm not saying the team at KSBJ is like that. I am just saying the slogan comes off that way. I've heard it from numerous unsaved people in Houston - it turns them off. The play on words is cute, but only to Christians. They REALLY need a focus group that includes non-Christians to analyze how that slogan comes across.

The music on KSBJ seems to have improved, I still think there is a real need for a Hot-AC or Christian rock outlet down there. Hopefully KSBJ will add that as an HD-2 channel or something - but it appears HD is as dead as AM stereo with consumers. So the kids who need the Hot-AC or rock probably won't be reached. I don't know a single person in Houston that listens to KSBJ, and I know a lot of people down there, Christian and non-Christian. They all listen to secular or satellite channels. Like KLTY up here, there may be a soccer mom demographic somewhere, but not among the 20's, 30's, 40's and even 50's I know. Certainly no teenager listens, even if God does. They are on rock, hip-hop, or country as are their parents.

Out of the ones I've heard recently, I'd say K-Love is the best.

WAY-FM (Nashville/Bowling Green/Huntsville) is OK, but some of their shotguns sound dated. The last time I drove from Kentucky to Alabama, I actually heard the same sweeper after three consecutive songs.

I haven't heard KSBJ recently, but what was likely intended by the "God listens" slogan is wrong. Since God is all-knowing, He is actually listening to every radio station.

If one listens for an hour, one will discover the intended meaning of "God listens." However, one must listen to know for sure, and it can be misconstrued in several negative ways; that makes it a surprising choice for a brand / marketing focus.
