Which dubstep song do you think could crossover into US mainstream?

Dubstep is pretty much the craze right now, and it's only a matter of time before a song goes mainstream. I'm not talking about a random wobble being incorporated into pop songs, but actual dubstep. Similar to what happened Katy B - "On A Mission" in the UK.

Right now, I think Nero - "Promises" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llDikI2hTtk&ob=av2e) has some promise. Your thoughts?

Pitbull, Flo Rida, Kanye West, ... Lil Wayne...?

Oh, sorry! I almost left this second more detailed part of the question out, but it's ok! Let me edit this and provide the FULL question here;

*So, which rapper do you think will be added to the track first?

Well.... if anybody, then hopefully Ludacris, Flo Rida, or Pitbull.  ;)

Oh Wait! I know, I know! That song that goes like this:

Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp TAAHHHHHHH, WAWAWAWAWAWA (16th beats), Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp TAAAHHHH

Have you heard that one yet? You know its by that Junkie with the White Trash Hair and his fans all sniff paint? Right...can't wait for Dumbstep to go mainstream. Its funny how people always misspell it with no "m"

Very good question, DJ_Perry. My best guess as to why dubstep is considered EDM is because of its relation to DnB. I like both rock and hip hop, so that's probably why dubstep has some appeal to me. That said, I've only liked maybe 20-30% of the dubstep I've heard so far, which puts it just below or on par with other genres I like. The song I referenced in the OP seems to me to have the most crossover appeal in Alternative radio.

Haha, KDM! Also true. However, I can't see Pitbull doing dubstep since he's always been uptempo even in his reggaeton days. The same goes for Flo Rida, but then again he has a drop embedded in "Good Feeling". Perhaps we could Lil Jon dropping some "WHATTTTT?!?!? OKAY!!!!!!" combined with Perry's "Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp TAAHHHHHHH, WAWAWAWAWAWA (16th beats), Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp Whoomp TAAAHHHH" haha! ;D

And congratulations on your 2500th post, Tony! :)

Really enjoying dubstep and it's fantastic how it's growing in EDM. You have supporters from all over dance including but not limited to: Benny Benassi, Ferry Corsten, Martin Solveig, Alex M.O.R.P.H. and many more that slip my mind right now.

We're trying to incorporate it in our playlist and the reaction has been good so far.

If you're not sold on dubstep yet, this will win you over (As well as convince you to move to Europe):

First, thanks everyone :) You guys make me talk...too much at times! ;D

Back to topic, I think with dubstep (and on another thread I did have a discussion on this.) it all depends on the market. For places like California, New England, places that have very strong support regarding EDM and its culture, I could see where dubstep would be successful. But in a market like New York City that has always been about faster rhythmic beats, I can't see dubstep working out here. Not that there aren't any fans of dubstep here, but freestyle outnumbers them. Nor do I see any dubstep events being promoted in the clubs around here.

We may have Electric Zoo but I see a lot more out-of-towners here than I do locals :(

If dubstep wouldn't work in certain areas due to its slow beat style, then DUBble step should be tried...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHBmKs-sgTc
fast forward to the middle to get the FULL DUBble STEP EFFECT!

I still think 2 Step is too advanced for American's, but DUBble step has two things that people here are used to.

1. Uptempo beats
2. Wonky Wobbly Dubstep Basslines

(If you want to know what "wonky" means, search for and ask Anna Kiss or other UK dj's on facebook.)

I love when dubstep is played in certain mixes on our local station. I can "tolerate" an entire set of it, depending on which songs are used and how they sound. However, I prefer it mixed with other things (that are appropriate and not much softer than it). On a somewhat similar note, I also believe some future garage would work in the US as well, as it's not as complicated and complex as the older 2 Step sound.

For some odd reason, why do I see dubstep making an impact more in the hip-hop world than in dance? I mean, it can pass under the dance umbrella for the fact some of the sounds have a little cross between jungle/drum n bass at the same time the breaks and lyrics in the beat lean towards an urban feel.

Some pop stars have already recorded full dubstep on their albums. Rihanna being the most recognizable name.Rappers are increasingly working on tracks too. It's just a matter of time before this takes off. A lot of tracks range from the 120-140 bpm not all of it is slow. The sound is still evolving and has had a huge underground following in cities like San Francisco since the early 2000's.

The reason it is called Dubstep is because it's half time. 65-80 BPM is half of 130-160. If a track is 120-140, then its not Dub. It's Electro or whatever Genre it decides to borrow from.

Furthermore, some programs may detect the tempo for such songs as 140, but it is most likely reading the bassline line doing 16th beats at 70BPM. The key is the snare drum. They hit on 2 and 4, so something tells me you are double counting

I love dance and have always supported it...When I spin at clubs I have always been heavy house, trance ,club...Occasionaly over the years i've had to sell out and play Hip Hop sets to appease crowds..However I will never-ever play Dupstep...its slly I agree with thewahhhhh wahhhh theory...the whole thing is ridiculous and sounds bad(the same way I feel about drum and Bass)......Honestly it just sounds bad.

I knew I couldn't be the only one. However, I can appreciate Drum and Bass. People always compare the 2, but I don't see a whole lot in common. Granted DNB usually starts out at a half time speed with Hip Hop type vibes, but it then double times into some crazy rhythm but still holds melody. True Dubstep remains at a halftime tempo which does not qualify as dance IMO. If the song toggles back and forth from 65/130 like some Electro House tracks do, then that's not really Dub. Those are just tracks with breakdown sections like that stupid Britney example.

BTW, this is what it sounds like to me:
