Which has the best radio stations overall, Huntsville or Birmingham?

This should be interesting. I tend to listen to Birmingham stations like the old X (when it was 107.7 The X) and now 106.9 The Eagle a lot more. I hardly ever listen to Huntsville stations anymore. In my opinion, their playlists are weak and it seems they are going after a "family" audience.

I miss the old pre-2002 WRAX. That was such a great station but now it's gone and I don't know what they sound like now due to crappy reception.

IMO, Huntsville's urban and country stations are better than Birmingham's, you have more talk variety, and the Rocket's a solid rock station unlike anything Birmingham has(shame you can't pick it up for beans where you are). And you have WJAB and Way FM over on the non-com end of the dial.

On the other hand, the Q is a better CHR than WZYP, Rock 99 and the Eagle are miles beyond WTAK, and I'd take Magic over a pure oldies station like the WXQs any day.

Overall advantage: Huntsville(barely)

The following is based entirely on opinion, you can agree, or disagree, but don't hold it against me because I hate my local radio market.....

that's like compairing dirt to gold (where huntsville would be the dirt)
we have the absolute worst classic rock station in the southeast (the only station I see as worse is 92.5 the fox in cincinnati) translators galore and the only station worth listening to has a boring as crap morning show (rocket) people ask me why I have an outdoor antenna..... so I can listen to something not local that actually is good, such as Rock 99-5 (have to have the antenna just right or a translator blocks it), KZ 106 from Chattanooga (same situation as 995) 105.9 the rock from Nashville, 102-9 the buzz from Nashville (same situation as 995 and kz) 1069 the eagle, and so on.
Edited by BamaWOLF on 11/06/05 06:59 PM.

Well, I thought more people would post but I guess this is a slow period on this board.

Perhaps, I will build a strong receiving indoor(more likely outdoor)antenna out of whatever parts I can find at various retail stores. I am so sick of not being able to pick up the Rocket. Even though Guntersville is a FM hole due to the various hills and mountains, I will find a way to pick up that station and even try again on The X. Maybe then, I can enjoy more rock stations than just 106.9 The Eagle which still hasn't annoy me yet.

I got my antenna at radio shack for $25
works great, i get most of the strong nashville signals loud and clear, great for DXing too, highly directional so you might need a rotator too.
______________

With a good outdoor antenna from Guntersville, one might be able to catch east Tennessee stations, too. Rock's not dead in Knoxville and Bristol.
