Which Market has the Best HD Coices

DC once had 101.1-2 "Erockser" AAA channel, but it got replaced by a harder-edge rock HD2 a few months ago. WWWT 107.7 just outside of DC now has a HD2 relaying Federal News Radio (on AM 1500 and 820). Federal News airs informercials on certains times on weekends--also heard on 107.7-2, certainly not the reason why I bought an HD radio. So, DC no longer has the best choises in HD subchannels when it comes to rock. 94.7 HD2 is alternative but plays some of the bands I don't care for. (Rage Against the Machine, Papa Roach, etc)
 
Thanks. I have the Sony hd home tuner hooked to my roof top tv anntenna and I get some bay area stations in Elk Grove although the rotor is broken and not facing in the right direction for optimum reception. Kpfa and Kdfc are there but not in hd.
 
If you are looking for the best choice for HD, the two stations that has HD are the local Public Radio station, WMPN-FM and it's classical 24 format on one of the subchannels and WJSU-FM with it's Jazz format is the only choices we have in the Jackson, Ms market. Every one else has not converted to HD on FM, or on AM. (which for all AM stations is turning out to be a good choice). And this is the case in Most of Mississippi.

The closest commercial HD station on FM that can be heard is either Mobile or New Orleans for the Gulf Coast, or Memphis for North Mississippi. Other than that, there is no commercial HD-FM stations in the vicenity of Jackson, Meridian, or Laurel-Hattiesburg market in Mississippi. Some of these of stations in Jackson, Meridian, or Biloxi are with Clear Channel.

For some reason Clear Channel decided to only splash money out in big markets for HD, I guess. Madison, Wisconsin has lots of HD and it's a lot smaller than Jackson.

Some of the Jackson commercial stations would be good candidates for HD because of their full class C status and tall towers. The coverage would be very good.

WJSU sounds really good since they don't have any subchannels, but the last time I heard them in HD, it was very obvious that their studio mics were not balanced properly; it sounded like everyone was off to the right side. The music, though, was fine.
 
My problem with HD subchannels is they seem to change format at a pace no one can keep up with. They change format more often than even the main channels.

Sounds like the Twin Cities are a good place for HD. The signals outght to do well, too, considering power and terrain.

LA has a pretty diverse mix from what I can tell so far. KFWB and KNX are simulcast, there's a nice K-EARTH HD2 playing older oldies hits... KKGO HD3 is standards... And Pride radio's dance format makes an appearance here, too. I think one of the public stations and a few Spanish stations are not multicasting, and sound pretty good. Reception has been problematic, though. The HD signals don't seem to be very robust, especially on my slightly defective radio. It's really struggled in Burbank and Long Beach, and even had issues in Pasadena, right under Mt Wilson. But to be fair, analog reception has been terrible in these places, too.
 
I find it interesting KCRW isn't doing HD with their Eclectic 24 service.
