Which NYC FM Signals Can You Pick Up?

I was wondering which NYC FM signals can people receive in their location?
Here in the New Haven area, 97.1 WQHT, 103.5 WKTU and WHTZ 100.3 are the strongest on a car radio. Most others usually come in, but with static and interference. I'd say the worst is 101.1 WCBS, probably due to interference from KC 101.

What can other people pick up in their locations?

Here in New Britain, I will get a very weak signal of WQHT-FM 97.1 ("Hot 97") a couple times a week. I never get any other New York City station like that. Catching WQHT is tough, due to co-channel interference from WZBG-FM 97.3 of Litchfield.

In Fairfield, the NYCs come in pretty well. Sometimes I will get that a stronger signal from KC101 over CBSFM, but nothing major since most car radios have good selectivity. The closer you get to Norwalk and Stamford the stronger they get. Going north they are all strong until Stratford/Milford. I guess being in Lower fairfield county, it's expected to listen to NYC radio. In terms of Danbury/Brookfield, the NYC's are totally gone due to the Mountains.

I usually find that by the time I get up the hill in West Haven (I-95 exit 42), most of the NYC stations start to come in farily well on a car radio, with the exception of CBS-FM.

In Hartford the only one I can sometimes get is 103.5 WKTU. I've also gotten 100.3 WHTZ I think once. Basically though they are all gone way before Hartford.

That would be adjacent channel interference. Co-channel is on the same frequency.

How were you getting Z-100 that close to Rattlesnake Mountain and Lite 100.5 (WRCH-FM) being so near?

And with WRCH running IBOC as well... That would be a nearly impossible catch close to Rattlesnake unless WRCH's IBOC was off.

in my experiece I take 95 to exit 38 a lot then Rt 15 to 91 as I head back to school. the winner of this competion unless Dx exists is 103.5 KTU-FM . At the tunnel I loose a couple then a few come back like z100 who have no sideband interference and as I get to 91 the bounce off the hill but as I get on 91 north they die
my question living in old greenwich is how many ct stations make it down here past bridgeport :p I get 104.1 on my carver in good weather, KC 101.3 ok and 99.1 WPLR directional ok. I am looking forward in Cranking up 104.1 on I-95 to stamford

I sometimes get Hot 97 but thats about it. But the last time I was in CT when I was at the Target Store across from Meriden Square I got in Hot 97, 103.5 KTU, z100 tired coming in. I also got 101.7 The Beat off Long Island and 102.5 off Long Island. Also on time during Christmas last year when I was near Durham I picked up Mix 102.7 out of NYC and it was clear for awhile.

I doubt you'll get 104.1 clearly all the way down to Stamford. Maybe under ideal conditions. You have Q 104.3 and WRCN (103.9) either side. Ecpecially since 104.1 comes off West Peak in Meriden.

exit 9. the minute you turn the corner on I-95 where the 96.7 tower and the view of downtown come in is where I loose it.

I came back from Manhattan early this afternoon. I left my Panasonic CD/AM/FM "Walkman" on 92.3 K-Rock up until about I-95 mile marker 20 in Westport. It was solid to decent to the Stamford/Greenwich city line. It got washed out completely in Stamford with the overload from the nearby 96.7 FM tower. It popped in a few more times and had almost nothing by Westport. At that point, I tuned over to the "new" 104.1 FM. I didn't really start getting a useable signal until Stratford or so. The signal was hardly there at all in the parking lot of New Haven's Union Station. Once I got onto CT Route 34, past the ominous lot that was the Coliseum, the signal came back solid and was good the whole way up I-91.

your walkman allthogh not bad, having to take the train day in and day out transfering a lot at stamford which is 1/10th a mile from 96.7's tower may I suggest getting a Sangean pocket radio. the dx-210 Kicks some serious ass. my sony and panasonic walkmans get overload with 96.7 whereas any sangeans for some odd reason do not.
also: the MDR-57G headphones around the neck are the best to use as the antenna. I have gotten k-rock pretty good in stratford as well with the sangeans and with the panasonic/sony walkmand are ok but remeber it also depends on the 'atmospheric conditions" with DX. the sangeans also have made me get k-rock good in bridgeport when my sony and panosonics have failed right under WEBE 108 tower which is at the Power plant

In the Farmington/Bristol area I have always found 97.1 and 103.5 the easiest to pull in. While driving I can usually pull in most of the NYC FMs as far north as New Haven on I-95. If going north on Route 8 I usually lose them just north of Trumbull. Litchfield is a great place for listening...due to the high terrain you can pick up NYC and Boston stations in addition to the local stuff.

Add Albany to the list if you are chillin on the mountains in Kent, CT. I went to boarding school on skiff mountain and just to the north NY stations would disappear and Albany would dominate.

On Avon Mountain 98.7, 103.5, and 97.1 all come in quite well. Of course you have to face west.

Additionally, you can pick up K-104 from Kingston, NY, 106.5 from Albany, and 106.1 and 97.5 from Long Island.

Ever been to Hogback Mtn. in Vermont? You can get Hartford, New Haven, Springfield, Albany and Boston stations.

Is Hogback Mountain in southern Vermont? I only get to Brattleboro in Windham County these days.
