Which one will AMP give up?

On May 18th,2006, five years will have passed since 1620-WHLY was offically licensed, which means AMP must give up WDND-1580 or WHLY-1620 in South Bend. Which will it be? (FCC Docket 87-267 explains the 5 year rule)

Well Rockn roll.
I checked the FCC website and noticed that both stations are still licenced to 2012 (you can check on the FCC page).

Doesn't mean anything. Since AMP doesn't have to announce which one they're keeping until they have to turn one in, both were licensed to 2012 so the one they keep remains licensed and on schedule for the next renewal. As an example, KYDZ 1180 in Omaha is listed as licensed to 2013, but Waitt has already announced they're turning the license in, as required by the FCC, in the next month or so. I think AMP will turn in 1580's license, though I'm not convinced they'll leave 1620 standards.

By the way, there is an exception to that rule of having to turn in the license to one station if you get an expanded band allotment. However, it doesn't apply to WDND/WHLY. If I remember correctly, both stations must cover at least 1,000,000 people.

Both stations seem to do okay in South Bend as far as 12+ goes for the most part. My prediction is that 1580's license would be turned in and 1620 will either retain adult standards or move sports back to 1620. 1490 will more than likely pick up whichever format 1620 doesn't pick up.

Makes sense. 1490 isn't doing much as it stands right now.

Well maybe it will give reason for Fed. Med's WTRC to return to music (I HOPE AND PRAY!) or give 1490 AM a new format (desperately needed since they dropped the 70s).
