Which ones will Clear Channel sell?

Reading the news about the big Clear Channel buyout deal, and noticed this:

[...] some significant radio station divestitures will be required in larger markets, since clusters that exceed current ownership limits will no longer be grandfathered. According to the data that Clear Channel filed with the FCC, it will be selling off 3 FMs in San Francisco-San Jose, 2 stations (including at least one FM) in Los Angeles...

I imagine one of them will be either KTLK or KLAC, probably KTLK.

Which FM will CC sell? KBIG or Star? (Obviously they won't be dumping KIIS. I doubt they'll dump Hot.)

And I hear that after the buyout is complete, they'll be even MORE bloodletting at CC stations across the country.

Think frequencies, not stations. KBIG is the best signal in LA (commercial) so that frequency will not go. 92.3 is better than KYSR's Mullholland signal, so they might move the star fomat to the Hot signal, and sell 98.7. All the rest are Wilsons, so it is a question of selling the worst frequency... star's... and putting the highest billing formats on the ones that remain.

I think we will see a lot of moves of formats to better frequencies so the underperformers can be sold.

What did I miss? Are the ownership limits for L.A. lower than 5FM and 3AM now?

That might be a good opportunity to combine Star and KBIG music for a better-formatted station.

It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out. If the scenario you mentioned above comes to light, that would mean the end of Hot. When is CC due to sell in LA???

Demographically, ethnically and psychographically, Star and KBIG are very far apart... even the ZIP codes they perform best in are different.

I don't think any of this will matter. Apparently because KVVS and KAVL are in the L.A. metro - they are counting. The rule is still eight and they can supposedly sell those two. Still trying to confirm.

Hmm, I didn't think about that.

According to the FCC filing, KAVL/KVVS are included in the LA market. Those will almost certainly be the stations to be sold if divestiture is required.

That seems like those would be a good choice to divest.

Can't wait for the bloodletting to get higher up the chain and rid us of the managers that have helped destroy radio.
If there were justice in the universe, *[EDIT]*. Hope springs eternal. :D

I just feel sorry for whatever few good radio people are left at CC nationwide. They usually replace experienced radio people with cashiers from the local Quicky Mart.

If CC has to sell the rest of their stations, all that will be left to do is throw Darth Sidious down the shaft and have the hobbit chuck the ring in the volcano.

So sayeth Rex.

Happy holidays [EDIT].

*[EDIT-offensive content]*

If KAVL and KVVS are representative of what CC will be selling, that $700,000,000 is way optimistic.
