WHICH STATION HAS BETTER MUSIC THE HARBOR OR THE OLD MIKE FM

I notice that the harbor is more like an other WROR and they repeat the same songs lot during the day which to me is annoying. There supposed to play everything.

Mike had more oh wow songs but later tightened up..Harbor rock heavy. bostonradio tweeted Harbor ratings (6+ demo?) 3x higher than FNX had

The Harbor claims they play "anything", not "everything".

"Mike-FM" used to claim they played "everything", not "anything".

The answer is neither.

Stations that bill themselves as playing "anything" or "everything" usually do anything but that.

Listeners like to think of themselves as open to everything, but really they aren't. A better description would be "We play anything....that a middle class suburban white housewife would listen to".

Is the Harbor doing much in the way of R&B-ish stuff or mostly rock? Does CC fear cutting into their Kiss and Jam'n--but wait, Harbor would be earlier stuff...

Acc to Harbor site just played: Cars, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, Meredith Brooks, Spin Doctors, Huey Lewis, Nickleback...

Where's the R&B-ish stuff. Oh maybe they'll play some Donna Summer or Michael Jackson.
The "anything" or "everything" motto is pure bovine excrement. They're going after rock/pop/classic hits

Narrow playlist. When Mike went off and a group was started to "save" it, I saw post from people saying they really
miss what they played. They had so much variety. Variety! OK, so it was vanilla and...french vanilla.

Mike would--at the start--throw in some curveballs like one hit wonders, country, Tony Bennett, novelty songs but eventually the playlist tightened up and they wound up with much of the same stuff you could find at other stations but maybe some R&B/dance/soul was thrown in at least.

It's boring, it's predictable, and it will make CC a whole lot of money.

"You Know All The Songs..."--former slogan of WODS

Lauro I was mentioning to @bostonradio on twitter the apparent absence of R&B/soul/dance etc
from Harbor. It seemed like mostly rock. He did say he heard one song by Will Smith the Fresh
Prince and damn near drove off the road (kidding of course) :)

>>Boston Radio Watch ‏@bostonradio
They threw in Will Smith's Getting Jiggy with It in middle of typical Journey/Foreigner/Bon Jovi block. I almost drove off 128

So, vanilla. And french vanilla. There's variety for you.

well, I do like the name (The Harbor) Their website as well is ok. Don't get me wrong, I did when it was (93.7 Mike FM) as well as now, I do sometimes put (well now) "101.7 The Harbor" I put it on, just to see what they're playing. I leave it on for a short time. Only to see what they're going to play next. It's not my favorite radio station, but I do know of it and listen sometimes.

Agree with others--neither. I do have them on a preset. If they have a good song on, I listen to it, then I usually move on-beats having a religious , Spanish or "Rap" FM station but that's about it........

The former FNX listeners who now hear Bon Jovi on 101.7 do care...as do the people at Entercom and
Clear Channel and the ad agencies do, etc...and those listeners who do like "variety hits"

i was more excited in the beginning. Now there are too many repeats in what i consider a short amount of time. Im hoping the playlist gets a little more diverse. And yes, its 98% vanilla.

I think Mike had the better music, no question about it. Even at the end, they would still play a "wild card" or whatever you want to call it once in a while, usually followed by a liner making fun of the fact that they played that song.

That's the sort of fun that, I suppose, is an absolute no-no in the People Meter era, because research shows that song people don't know/love cause station-switching and ruin a station's all-important TSL.

Exactly. Plus, Mike had a MUCH wider playlist.
