Even though both of these stations are pretty much the same format... which do you think should be known as CT's best rock station?

99.1 WPLR or WRKI I-95??

I'd have to choose WPLR...Just curious...why didn't you also include WCCC?

Definitely I-95 (WRKI). It's playlist has much more variety. They play the classic rock songs that WPLR plays as well as some newer songs that WPLR doesn't. They also have some 80's metal as well.

I like them both. When I'm in the car, whoever comes in clearer gets the nod.
All signals being equal I would go with wplr. They seem have started playing some heavier stuff lately. I have actually heard some 80's metal like Whitesnake, Def Lep, and Ozzy there too.

Different format. PLR and I-95 are more classic rock where CC is active rock with Alternative/Hard rock leanings.

In Southwest Ct, you could also throw in 92.3 K-Rock, especially with their format change. They seem to sound a lot like 'PLR and I-95.

K Rock does play a lot of good music but, New York City already had Q1043. K Rock may be trying to take a chunk out of Q's ratings, but I doubt that will happen, because Q1043 sounds excellents. the jocks are real good too. Doesn't Q1043 come into SW CT also?<P ID="signature">______________

Pretty much all NYC commercial stations come in well in SW Connecticut. Some better than others. I find 103.5, 97.1, 100.3 are pretty clear up to New Haven. Others are tougher until south of Orange, particularly 92.3, 101.1.

My vote would have to go to WRKI. Their morning show is AWESOME.

Every time I tune to 'PLR, I usually turn it off pretty quick. There's just something about the feel of the station that rubs me the wrong way, and I'm not sure what it is....

Hell, Nyc city stations will go as far east as hartford and as far north as Great Barrington Mass if nothing interferes. I learned this for all the time I was up at boarding school

Re: how about 1063? wpdh's relay

do any of you factor in wpdh's new relay on 1063. I have tagged that station as far east as new haven (granted dependent on the terrain and interference from wbli 106.1

WPDH is an excellent classic rock station. Great morning show and great music. I listen to them all the time up here in Northern New Jersey. WPDH is heard on of course 101.5, 106.1 WPDA in Jeffersonville, NY, and in Westchester on 106.3 (as Ozman said) Does 101.5 go into CT also? I ask because they cover a very large area.

PLR plays the same newer songs that I-95 does. They are both the same but I like the imaging better on PLR. It has a better feel.

I didnt include it because I wanted other people to add other rock stations to the list, just like you did.

Thanks

Uh, 101.5 has a large signal correct but on most radios, KC101.3 usually bleeds them out the farther into CT you get. It is pretty instant when you travel from Brewster to Danbury.

I would have to disagree about the newer songs. It seems that I95 is a lot more open to adding new rock songs to their playlist than PLR. Both stations are mainstream but PLR tends to stick with classic tunes the majority. It is hard too because I95 serves the initial likings in the Western CT (Danbury) area, where PLR caters obviously New Haven so the demand is different in each station's home city. I would have to say CT is pretty lucky to have two rock stations that have stood the test of time.

I disagree about the new songs issue, but I agree that these two stations
have seemed to continue the legacy of playing great rock music... old and new!!

JC,

You must be Jim Clarke, the part-timer on Cumulus' I-95?

There are now 4 rockers in CT - CCC, The Fox, I-95 & PLR.

All of the statements below are my opinion.

CCC is the best (even though it's an Active Rocker in Hartford).

In Fairfield/New Haven counties, I-95 is best.

Even though PLR is the only station listed that is rated #1 (New Haven), that doesn't make it CTs' #1 Rock Station, even though they say so.

CCC, The Fox & I-95 are rockers that are not rated #1 in their respective markets.

I-95 plays a better variety of music than PLR or the Fox.

As far as the Air Talent/Personalities, a few guys on the Fox are OK, the only guys I like on I-95 are Jeff Zephyr & Dee Snider, & all of the guys on CCC.

As posted below by Mr. Macaroni, agreed that PLR is adding a few more cuts (about time) from Def Leppard (Foolin', etc.,) & Ozzy (Over The Mountain), mass appeal artists that I-95 & 98.5 The Bone play (among others). About time. PLR has Long Island listeners, & the Bone is a Long Island station. The Bone knows it reaches CT. Both of these stations know it, & the Bone does compete against PLR & others on the Island.
