Which station is/was "Oldies K101"

Anyone know which station does this website: http://www.k101.com/

It has a name of "Oldies K101"

I visit the site from time to time (Yes, I am that bored!) and it seems like it has been under construction for years now.

the "Oldies/K101" website belongs to results radio in santa rosa. i have no idea what's up with that or why.

what used to be "K101" in SF is now Star 101, KIOI. don't think it was ever an oldies station, but someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

It was for the former KCEZ in Corning, CA (chico Market)...was at 100.7. When i worked at K101 in San Francisco, I was told when I talked to Gary Katz, the fomrer owner of KCEZ, that the new owner of the station would probably ask for quite a bit of money for the domain...K101.com. We used K101radio.com until the switch to Star in 2000.

You're so right Mike, It's was KCEZ FM domain since 1999. But in 2000 KCEZ FM 100.7 and KTHU FM 102.1 swapped dial postion and now is KCEZ FM (Oldies 102.1) and KTHU FM (Thunder 100.7).

When James Gabbert owned both KIOI and KIQI, he played oldies on KIQI.

I distinctly remember listening to KIOI and KIQI simulcast while visiting the Bay Area for a week in the summer of 1979, although the AM signed off at sunset, of course.

Did the separate programming come before or after then?
______________

I don't think so. KIQI was a dawn to sunset simulcast of the FM side - always CHR. If 1010 AM ran Oldies, it must have been a very short-lived format. You're probably thinking of KOFY. When Gabbert got back into radio in the late 80s (?), he ran KOFY-AM 1050 as a mostly 50s oldies station. There was a lot of "synergy" between his Dance Party show on TV20 and the oldies station. The FM side (98.9) was AOR.

I think it was after. Chris Edwards did some shows, so did Tom Campbell, Steve Jordan and others. They even called it "K-101" didn't say it was AM or FM but it was definitely separate programming.

I made a visit to San Francisco in about 1977. I stumbled across KIQI. They were recreating that day in history from 1963. All music, jingles, news and information were from 1963 except future gold, which was usually 1965. One of the comments I heard was about dialing your phone because touchtone hadn't been invented yet. This went on for at least several days. I just loved it!

...Did you love it enough to roll some tape? (Anyone? Bueller?)

If tape exists, let me know ASAP, please.

Actually, the touchtone was "invented" in the 1950s, and was tested in the summer of 1959 in some Southern Bell customers' homes. It formally made its debut at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, although the announcement by Bell Labs about its being phased in to regular service was not until June of 1964.

I recommend reading the Bell Labs Technical Journal from 1960 on the subject (downloadable from the site); on page 19 is a photo showing a transparent model of the early touchtone pad.
______________
