Which station pulls 18-34 men?

Not talking about ratings necessarily, more like ad buyers with any good anecdotal evidence. I've got a client with 5 figures ready to buy that demo and just wanted to get any impressions of 680 and 790 specifically, along with 100.5 and 92.9 generally.

Are they soft now? Reps making deals? Willing to do value-add?

Also, any stations really 'packing the joint'? Getting good results?

Sorry to bore the other 99% of you, but I'd love to hear from buyers on this - if there are any besides Roddy! (Crickets)

Hey, not a buyer, but just from intuition and ratings I would consider (in this order)

V 103 - does very well with men 18-34
WSB 750 - also does well
Project 96 - does well but may be slipping at the expense of TRG
100.5 - may do well at the expense of Project, 680, and River
680 - Decent but falling to TRG
790 - Not so well lately
Kicks - Decent but female skewing
Dave - not so well & more female skewing

Most music stations target women. Rock and sports and the ones that do target men. Ethnic-targeted stations (Spanish, urban, etc.) do reach a significant amount of men within those demographics. The best stations to go with really depends on who your client is and who they want to reach.

Which station pulls 18-34 men?

Kind of a risque question, isn't it? ;D

Anything "active rock" gets their attention usually.....

Being in that range I listen to WSB-am most of the time but will switch over to Project and 99x on 99.7 HD2. I never listen to it online though.

Most music stations target women.

Not necessarily correct. In the fall, 2007 book:

WZGC - 54% Male
WBTS - 53% Male
WHTA - 63% Male
WKLS - 75% Male
WNNX - 58% Male
WSRV - 68% Male
WYAY - 58% Male

The best stations for 18-34 are:

WVEE - 43% of their audience
WBTS - 49%
WHTA - 56%
WKLS - 54%
WWWQ - 55%

Most of the stations you mentioned in the first list are rock-based, so it would have a high male-to-female ratio. Overall, most music-formatted radio stations do target women. Look at how many stations across the country program CHR, the various forms of adult contemporary. You could probably even throw in country and urban AC.
It does not surprise, me, however that hip-hop stations have a high amount of male listeners. I believe that is because blacks have fierce loyalty to urban formats and thus, that's where you'll find most black male listeners. Females, too, but I think they would be more inclined to listen to urban AC.

My question is why would anyone hire someone to do their ad buying that would need this board to figure out the top stations for 18 - 34 men? I would think as a buyer you would have access to this information and have these stations calling on you spout their reasons why they are the best.

Isn't there a difference between "needing this board" and "just wanting to get impressions"? R-I may just be the place to get that tiny bit of information not usually found in the office.

What's the lifestyle factor within the demo - Upscale, Blue Collar, Urban, Beer drinkers, Mercedes Owners, Professional, etc? Overall Experience: V103 and WSB-AM are your anchors for reach - however, you gotta pony-up the BIG $$ to make it work. Nobody does promotional tie-ins better than 790 The Zone if you need on site sampling, event marketing, etc. TRG's have street buzz now and work unless content is an issue - and it is for many agencies like GSD&M. Dave FM and The River are solid 25+ (lean a bit female) but their promo support is limited and are more background than TRG’s for example. EVERYONE is doing deals. Be careful with added value - most added value has no value to the station or your client's results. If you want more than just spots pay for a great promotion with web, stream, email blasts, Instore POP, etc. Think beyond demo. Be in context with the stations audience and their lifestyle.
