WHICH STATION WILL TRY AN ALL HALLOWEEN FORMAT?

I wonder if there are any radio stations who will try an All-Halloween format for the 2 weeks leading up to the big day. After all, it is the second most commercialized holiday in the nation, so why not call up some radio stations and get them to try an All-Halloween format?

An all-Halloween format? That's a bit of a stretch. However, I could see a station, on 10/31 itself, going all Halloween just for that day. Along with the novelty stuff like 'Monster Mash,' they could play songs that just sound spooky and have a Halloween vibe. 'Hypnotized' by Fleetwood Mac and 'In the Court of the Crimson King' by King Crimson come to mind. 'Welcome to My Nightmare' from Alice Cooper (hell, almost anything by him) is an obvious choice. And, of course, there's the all-time Halloween classic, 'Halloween' by Helloween. I think there's enough music out there that fits the description I just provided for a day's worth of programming, but not for weeks on end like they do with Christmas.

Don't forget "Spooky" by the Classics IV.

Or, just put "Hell is for Children" by Pat Benatar on an endless loop.
"That'll fix the little b@$t@rds!" -- Uncle Don

I'll be filling in for the WMWM local music show on Halloween day as the host goes out in downtown Salem to interview people via cell phone. I could probably think of some appropriate songs (not
necessarily local) though we may just sprinkle a song or two in

Screamin Jay Hawkins--I Put a Spell On You
Howlin' Wolf--Evil... I Ain't Superstitious etc
Lonnie Brooks (blues)--Bewitched
Sinatra--Witchcraft
Ministry--Every Day is Halloween
Dead Kennedys--Halloween
Bob Malone (guy I interviewed last wk)--So What If It's Halloween
Bonzo Dog Band--Monster Mash (cover version of Bobby Boris Pickett...who I saw play
Archie Bunker in Morgan White & Bob Katzen's stage show "Don't Touch That Dial")

Rose & The Arrangement (IIRC)--The Cockroach that Ate Cincinnati
and many more

Bloom Country comic strip, with Opus the Penguin and Bill the Cat going door to door in
their Presidential campaign. People keep saying they're cute and giving them candy. "Who
the heck put Election Day so close to Halloween???" :)

Actually, stunting by playing continuous "Monster Mash" might be a good way to segway to a new format for some stations changing on November 1.

Actually, Boris Pickett's little-known follow-up, "Monster's Holiday," would be a good bridge from an all-Halloween format to an all-Christmas format. ;)

Damn ! So glad I don't have to participate in this madness anymore. I can just see the Sales Manager calling a special (and mandatory) meeting and asking for lists of all Halloween songs the staff has ever heard of..."And, you're not leaving this room until you've got at least 5 ! And, no looking at your neighbor's list ! Oh, and as an incentive...you'll all receive some of last year's candy corn as a "big" thank you from Clueless Conglomerate Broadcasting, Inc." LOL !

playlist from my Halloween show last year--just the Halloween songs I played. I don't expect a lot of you to know many of the songs, except maybe Bob, but anyway... (the record labels are in the parentheses)

in the unlikely occurrence someone would like to check out this show, I have it archived: http://sonicoverload.blogspot.com/2009/11/sonic-overload-102609.html

That Dead Kennedys song becomes an "earwig" every year to me (can't get it out of my head).
"Remember what I did, remember what I was, back on Halloween"

Maybe Rocky Horror stuff could fit in too...the idea of it being a horror movie spoof, plus
the devotees who 'dress up' as the characters. Time Warp; "There's a Light...Over at the
Frankenstein place" etc

Like perhaps the Christmas format?
