WHICH TALK SHOW HOST HAS A GREAT VOICE

I wonder which genius at KFI decided to put on Steve Edwards while Tim Conway Jr takes a few days off. I like Steve but his voice on radio is horrible. It's too gravelly and he sounds like a 90 year old guy. I couldn't listen to it more than 4 minutes. Which then made me wonder if voices are considered when PM's are deciding on hiring a talk show host.

Tom Leykis has always had a good powerful voice, but sadly the last several years that I had heard him, it sounded dreadful. He sounded like a lung cancer patient. Ken Champiou has a horrible voice too with too much gravel and phlegm. You keep wanting to reach through the radio and grab his throat and tell him to take a deep hard cough to clear his voice. Bill Carroll suffers from the raspy voice as well. Peter Tilden has a horrible voice too, too monotonous and could put insomniacs to sleep within minutes. John Phillips is fine but too phoney a yuck yuck radio voice. Mark Levin I won't even bother to comment on. Dennis Prager's voice has a nice timbre but once again it could put anyone to sleep. Bill Handle and John Koybalt's voices are good. I think Howard Stern's is probably one of the best which may explain why most people probably are able to listen to his show for a 5 hour stretch. It doesn't irritate you.

I really can't think of too many talk radio hosts that have a great voice.

I have a feeling you are just too, too hard to please.

We turned a corner about 50 years ago in the industry, and that corner matured 30 years ago as radio moved to FM.

It's very simple: A brain that has something to say trumps a golden voice attached to an empty brain any day.

I would say Oprah should have a radio show. She's already a veteran in the talk show industy so radio should give her a try.

Odd that the OP would pick nasal whiner John Kobylt as the one with the good voice and not Ken.

Handel always sounds like he's slobbering over the mic, and (especially in prerecorded readings) you can hear him inhaling through his nose after every sentence. Very annoying.

I've always thought Joe Crummey's voice was good for what his show is/was and his personality. Kind of laid back, nothing too heavy.

Why would they even bring Steve Edwards into the building? not only is he your grandfather's talk show host, he is legacy KABC Toxic!

It would be better to bring Ziegler back under the cover of darkness (without telling John Kobylt) and put him back on. Guaranteed fireworks as he manages to piss off everyone in the building (again) over the course of the next six months.

Steve Edwards cannot be THAT toxic as he hosts one of the top television morning shows aimed at young viewers.
Maybe not, by his cohorts to his left and his right certainly are.

Zeigler=nutcase, keep him out where he belongs. Edwards did sound sedate, but he was clear, concise and easy to listen to. I found him to be engaging.

I agree, Handel has no mic technique and it shows. No real training apparently. As for radio turning a corner, I'm not so sure it happened that long ago. By the way, I believe that a great voice connected to a great brain is what makes radio legends. You can have it that way, you just need to seek out the right talent. There are some very nice voices still on the air, but not as many as there were even 20 years ago.
