Which Tri-state area station has the best jocks???

Not speaking of "a" jock. looking for you thoughts one which station has the best On-air staff as a whole.

92.3 K-Rock, in my opinion. Other stations "do their jobs" but these guys bring a certain distinctive personality to their individual slots. Even their weekenders aren't too bad.

I'm not familiar with the jocks at every NYC-area station, but this thread would be incomplete without a mention of Z100. Jocks like Shelley Wade, Romeo and Joe Rosati embody what the format is all about, and JJ Kincaid is among my favorite personalities of this era.

I'd have to say it would easily go to CBS 101.1. If there's a weak link it might be the two overnighters Mazzei and Bloch, but the rest of the weekday and weekend schedule has no weak link. Dan Taylor. Bob Shannon. Broadway Bill Lee. Ron Parker. Sue O Neil. Rick Stacey. Pat St. John. You could expect to turn any one of them on and be sufficiently entertained. After that KTU probably has the next best air-staff with two weak links who you can expect not to be entertained by. Jagger at night and Bartel at the overnight don't really provide any entertainment value. But Cubby and Cindy in the morning, Diane Prior at the mid-day, and Hollywood and Goomba are a strong solid block.

Dear LIradiofan226...You didn't happen to notice that all of the "personalities" you mentioned here...THAT YOU DID'NT LIKE...are all VOICETRACKED???
Could this just be a trend...or something telling...about the lack of the industry's management truely not "getting it". It's just "phoned in"...hence...no mandate to listen!!!

For NYC music stations, CBS FM hands down. WPLJ is very strong too. WKTU solid third.
K-Rock? Not on the radar personality-wise outside of mornings.....but thats ALWAYS been the case there.

If you're looking for very dry and family-friendly personalities, CBS-FM and PLJ win. If you're looking for juice, go to K-Rock.

Wait a minute, Lex? DRY?? Trust me, darlin, these guys are not dry - they're FULL of personality, GREAT to listen to, and besides which my dear (you sound to me like someone who's smart on these things... :)) when the FIRST book AFTER CBS-FM's 7/12/07 return was RELEASED, iirc, CBSFM had DOUBLED the ratings of their previous format incarnation, which proves to ME that PERSONALITY can STILL be done in NYC IF IT'S DONE RIGHT!! I say, BRAVO to Brian Thomas for putting together the RIGHT combination of air talent, even to this oldtimer!!

Yeah, I have to agree that "dry" is hardly a word to describe CBS-FM's personalities. They're not putting on a "family-friendly" act, but are just naturally upbeat and friendly. (Although Rick Stacy can get a bit risque at times.) And I certainly wouldn't say that they're just "doing their jobs" - all of them bring their A-game and have distinct styles and personalities. You can't tell me that, say, Pat St. John sounds the same as Broadway Bill Lee. I have to agree that they have the best jock lineup in NYC. Runners up would be Z100 and PLJ.

Now I can appreciate a good edgy jock, and K-Rock had some good ones back in the day like Booker, Cane, and Julie Slater. But I haven't been that impressed with anyone I've heard from the current lineup.

It's getting a bit late and I'll continue my point in the morning, but I used to listen to old-school K-Rock back in the day and Booker might have been the only one that stood out for me. Cabbie, Cane, and Julie Slater were very uninteresting to me.

I like the current line-up because they take the time to get to know their listeners, whether it be through their K-Rock Girls contest or Nik Carter's Last Letter Game or through their Paltalk chatrooms. They have more direct interaction with their listeners than most stations I have seen and they make it a point to let their personalities shine through in all of their shifts. Everyone is different on that station and everyone has a different attitude and experiences to bring, which is something that I really like in a rock station.

Mjb1124, listen to Nik Carter's shift 10am-1pm on weekdays and you'll see what I mean. (Just not this week. He's on vacation.)

CBS-FM proves in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. CBS-FM wreaks of mediocrity. Where is Dan Ingram when we really need him?
