Which TV News Anchor Has Been With The Same Station The Longest?

How long was Stan Chambers at KTLA?

Stan was with KTLA for 63 years, but he doesn't really fit the requirements of this thread, since he was only anchor for short periods. He was mostly a reporter. From Wikipedia:

'His career began shortly after KTLA became the first commercially licensed TV station in the western United States. His April 1949 on-scene 27½-hour report of the unsuccessful attempt to rescue Kathy Fiscus from an abandoned well in San Marino, California prompted the sale of hundreds of TV sets in the Los Angeles area. His report has been recognized as the first live coverage of a breaking news story."

I can think of three weathermen....

Bob Turk from Baltimore"s WJZ and Ed Greene from Denver's KOA/KCNC both from the mid 70's.

Lou Scally from WHAG in Hagerstown, Maryland has been doing the evening weather since 1980 the same year he joined the staff of Hagerstown's WJEJ radio to do mornings. When does this man sleep ????

Interesting to Note the Sacramento DMA has produced talent that had long tenures somewhere else. Case and point Ellen Leyva she didn't last in Sacramento but became the lead host for ABC7 Eyewitness News in LA for nearly 2 decades.

And David Ono in this KOVR Blooper. He move also host ABC 7 Eyewitness News in LA too.

Tony McEwing one of the legends at Fox 11 Los Angeles also had short stints in Sacramento but is approaching 30 years at Fox 11 LA though.

Susan Hirasuna is also approaching the 30 year mark at her time at FOx 11 and she also had a short stint in Sacramento.

Kim Khazei was another of these people who left Sacramento but in this case had close to 2 decades in Boston on WHDH.

Pete Wilson and Gary Radnich on KTXL 40 in 1982 before they met again at KRON 4 during CHannel 4's final years as an NBC Affiliate.

I'm not usually home at 5:00 so I didn't know Cheryl Jennings had retired. She used to come in to a business I owned in the mid 80s. She was - and I assume still is - a very nice person.

Correction Cheryl Jennings is still at KGO ABC 7 but this time on a Weekend talk show called "Beyond the Headlines". Note this show is sometimes pre-empted for Golden State Warriors games Via ESPN/ABC and Beyond the Headlines will move to KOFY TV 20 in San Francisco.

Yep - WJW to WJKW when AM 850 was sold off, then back to WJW when AM 850 became WRMR.

CBS until the mid-90s, and then Fox via the New World deal...eventually a Fox O&O until they sold it off to Local TV LLC.

He's been on the same station, despite all those changes, since the mid-1960s...he's gonna be hard to beat in this race.

News anchor-wise here in Northeast Ohio, both Wilma Smith and Leon Bibb have been around since the 1970s, but not at the same station. Wilma was part of the "Eyewitness News" team on WEWS/5 (use Ernie Anderson's voice in your head when you read that), but is now 6 PM co-anchor at WJW's "Fox 8 News".

Leon was an anchor at WKYC/3 (NBC), but is now noon anchor at WEWS.

We lost some contenders recently, when Tim Taylor (WJW) and Ted Henry (WEWS) retired after lengthy times at the same stations.

Most of the sports anchors are relatively less tenured, though Jim Donovan (WKYC) has been around for a couple of decades. And John Telich (WJW) certainly has him beat, though he's only recently been the primary sports anchor after Tony Rizzo's departure to concentrate on his midday sports talk radio show...

Doug Adair was another long-time anchor in Cleveland, lasting 25 years in the market from 1958-70 at WJW and after a three-month no compete clause in his contract expired, he was at WKYC until leaving in 1983.

I thought this note in the Cleveland Plain Dealer from November 1987, when Doreen Gentzler announced she was leaving for Philly, was amusing given that's she's still going nearly 30 years later: "Gentzler is not sure if she'll stay with television news."

Although not always an anchor, Cleveland station WEWS' Dorothy Fuldheim worked from 1947 to 1984.... 37 years. She began with the station before the concept of the local anchor was even developed and left the air only because she suffered a stroke just shortly after interviewing Ronald Reagan.

Miami's Ralph Renick comes close, beginning in 1949 and leaving the air in 1985.

Dennis Anderson was with WDIO Duluth, MN for 42 years (1969-2011) and was the lead anchor there from 1970-2011

I'm thinking Linda (Gebhardt) Jackson has been on Channel 33 in Fort Wayne for close to 30 years.

If you count the time between WKJG and when Granite formed Indiana's NewsCenter.
Now she's technically on 21.2, Fort Wayne's NBC.
33 is now the CW.

Yes - and Don Sanchez (recently retired) was another - though he was just a sometimes anchor. Sanchez started in the Van Amburg "If It Bleeds, It Leads..." era of the 70s

Spencer Christian had been with ABC for 4 decades all different divisions of the network, 1 decade with WABC7, 1 decade wuth Good Morning America and 2 decades with KGO ABC7.

For Bay Area Viewers we know Spencer Christian for taking over Pete Giddings spot. I think Giddings was a Paul Moyer type person as having drama behind the scenes though.

Dan Ashley another person at KGO-ABC 7 with 2 decades worth at the station and Wayne Freedman.

Frank Sommerville he is approaching the 30 year mark at his time at KTVU Fox 2 News.
