None of the above.

WFNX must have trouble coming in at 107.7 with all that IBOC hash from 107.9 (Kiss 108). lol

If national trends hold true, it will be one of the rock stations. The format is really suffering in the PPM age as it doesn't turn up in casual listening (in stores, restaurants, etc.) nearly as much as CHR, AC and country.

I think we're overdue for a Spanish CHR. 101.7???

Haven't we heard this before. As long as WFNX is owned by the Boston Phoenix, they will never flip to a Spanish language format.

I could see WBOS or WPLM doing a Mike format which could get them some money.

Entercom won't put WRKO on 97.7. The reason is they need to beam the profitable WAAF signal
closer to Boston.
During the day WRKO does well in much of Boston. This time of year it can suffer due to the late
sunrise and early sunset, but it really only hurts the start of the morning show. The 680 signal
is solid during Ingraham, Lunch Money, Brien, and much of Howie's show, and Howie has 830
and other affiliates to help after dark. Savage, Doyle, and Red Eye aren't as high a priority to them,
so I would expect them to keep it on 680 with no FM simulcast. I suppose the best thing for Ent.
would be to have Greater sell them 96.9. That would give them their FM simulcast and eliminate
a competitor.

That ain't happening. (But I'll add stranger things have happened.)

btw way, way up the coast of Maine nr the Canadian border you can actually pick up stations
like WRKO, WBZ, WEEI (AM) and even WXKS 1200, by day. Do a search for "Lubec ME" in
radio-locator. It comes in across the water...someone from New Brunswick said on WEEI's
Facebook that they hope they wouldn't take their reg. programming off the 850 as it comes
in up there. (When I was in Portland last weekend, I found all those stations came in well
even just after dark, plus WNTN 1550 and WWZN 1510.)

Yet WRKO and WEEI have some trouble to the west, esp. after sunset.

WAAF = $$$. Putting it on 97.7 makes sense for them

But WPLM-FM owns the South Shore!

Exactly. And being locally O&O, they aren't carrying the debt the big boys are and seem to be content with what they're making and with the operational costs they're paying. Kinda like WXRV.

Nothing wrong in that! Of course they also have WPLM which part of the day is leased out to Barry Armstrong. Does anybody listen to WPLM vs. WPLM-FM? Just curious.

WBZ-FM's original frequency was 92.9. I don't believe there ws any time in 92.9's history where the station was truly successful. WBZ stupidly gave up 106.7 FM years ago, and it would be neat if they coudl buy 92.9 and place WBZ onto that frequency.

WBOS. They seem to have squandered every opportunity as far back as disco and country. Maybe 92.9 is just a cursed frequency.

WBOS has a decent coverage area, to wit:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WBOS&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

Interestingly, neither its old AM, WBOS, and later WUNR (calls stand for "United Nations Radio") were ever market contenders.

So I believe WBOS is certainly ripe for buying, by a standalone AM station, in order to move its format and shut down its antiquated, muffled, static-y AM technology. I have no idea why anyone would put an AM station on the air today, much less not want to sell it and replace it with an FM.

The old Top 40 WRKO would have done just fine on 98.5, except for stodgy, stupid management at the top that was afraid of self-competition.
