Which Will Survive?

With the new networks about to launch in the fall, the question that we all have to ask ourselves is which one has the better chance of survival? My bet is on the CW; despite the questionable attractiveness of the logo, I think that they will probably be the better of the upstarts in terms of ratings. MyNetwork IMO is probably going to either crash and burn or struggle for the same length as the soon to be predecessors (that is, if these so-called "English-language telenovelas" don't make it). Once again, I must say that the media is not learning from the failures of UPN and the WB-six broadcast networks was waay too many!

CW will thrive and My will be bye-bye. Now if we can just get rid of I/PAX once and for all?

I think My will be gone within two years. CW can go either way. If it can continue to expand its coverage and improve its lineup, it could thrive. Otherwise, it's gone by the 2010 season at the latest. The trick with WB and UPN is that they both served "niche" demographics; UPN had a very heavy urban slant (plus outliers like the Star Trek shows and wrestling, to attract a young male demographic). WB went for young female viewers, mainly, with an abundance of "teen" and "family" dramas. That was what allowed them to last this long; they were going after demos seen as underserved by the "big four."With the merger, both of these identities are lost. CW will need to establish a niche for itself fast, and I have doubts about whether it can do it.
