Whiner on Whiner crime?

Recently, on WEEI's Whiner Line (it's a very highly rated segment-I know some of you must listen) one caller, Angelo from Everett, who is a regular and known for being not-too-bright is yelling sexual harrassment because another whiner has been allowed to make remarks about his (Angelo's) wife. If he took legal action (I'm sure some ambulance chasers also listen to the Whiner LIne) could anything come of it? Angelo and spouse are not public figures. Or does calling a radio station effectively make you one?

Well the caller might have made himself a public figure by repeated calls to the line and development of his act, but his wife is clearly off limits. Ask Don Imus if he regrets what he said about Mrs. "Submit" Carr. Mrs. Carr was in no way considered a public figure, and Imus had to fork over a sum of money IIRC, although there was a confidentiality agreement.

Chances are the aggrieved wife doesn't have the money to retain a lawyer, the guy making the comments has nothing to go after, and it will all go away soon.

I didn't think anything could be done to the guy making the comments. I thought that if anyone got in trouble, it would be the station for playing the comments.

Maybe you need to start by reading up on libel and slander and the differences between them.

Sounds to me like Angelo from Everett is willfully an acting part in this radio drama and as such the characters he describes, real or not, are within bounds.

His wife is willing participant on the segment. She is on as often as Angelo.
