WHIO FM ????

Stupid, just like most FM newstalkers. Especially when you're using two sticks to do what one could do.

I'm sure the coveted F25-54 demo just can't wait to scan past Clark Howard's whiny voice while looking for a station playing "Sexy Back".

UPDATE: Tonight, 1290 was coming in BETTER than 1360. Are you listening Clear Channel Cincinnati engineers? Get with the program! How do you expect to get any ratings when your signal barely travels 5 miles?

Not the fault of the engineers. I believe from reading your posts you are in Sharonville. That would put you right in one of 1360's nulls when they go directional at night. That's why reception is crappy even though you are only five miles from the towers. Drive north on I-75 at night and you're in one of their lobes. You will notice the 1360 signal is better in Middletown, 25 miles away, than it is where you are. Drive a little south of where you live, into Evendale or Reading and you will notice much improvement in the 1360 nighttime signal even though you are still about the same distance from the towers as Sharonville. It's because you have moved out of the null. The null to the east-northeast is to protect a station in McKeesport/Pittsburgh, PA.

The old WIXZ or "Wixy-1360"... The first large-market Top-40 fulltime "gig" for none other than RUSH (as Rusty) after leaving "SwampEast" MO back in 1970. And you ought to experience the WIXZ null towards the west/south-west (to protect WSAI) - man it that one ever a "killer"!

For what it's worth, I had a good signal all the way to the 42 (Plain City exit on I-70 going towards Columbus this morning. Just past the exit I was starting to get a lot of multi pathing and interference.

What I did hear this morning seemed to be a little more coverage of Springfield news (ie. school buildings up for sale). What I didn't hear was anything about Troy, Tipp, Piqua or any of the other communities in Miami County that have been described as "starved for news".

I would hope that, now that the AM pattern issues have been discovered and are being corrected, WHIO AM can fill in some of the voids and regain some of the listeners who might have drifted away because of the reduced power since last April.

Good to hear you got good reception. The drop outs around Plain City are understandable...you're getting awfully close to the signal pattern of WHOK in Lancaster at 95.5 there.

As far as the news is concerned...remember, please. You can't report news if there's none to report. Piqua and Tipp City can be very quiet places on a Monday morning...I know. I've made news calls in the Dayton area before. Rest assured, the intent is to cover the Miami Valley on a more regional basis. Over time, I think you'll see the results of our efforts in this area. Or, to make a play on an old phrase, "Rome wasn't built in a day..."

Engineering? Greg Haun from Louisville is an excellent engineer. We're happy to have him on our staff.

Yeah, I did notice better reception up at the Streets of West Chester and the reception started to get bad right at the Rt. 42 and Fields Ertel intersection. I did notice a few weeks back that WSAI was running at full power at night for some reason. I wasn't complaining. The only reason I listen to WSAI is that I like Lionel and he's not on satellite.

This morning reception of 95.7 was really good. I came home from school and it was mediocre again. The only real advantage of having WHIO on FM for me is that I can listen to Coast to Coast AM by twisting the dial down a little bit from 97.3 instead of switching modes and tuning my RadioShack loop antenna to get WKRC.
