WHISTLE 100 WSSL-FM JINGLE

Ah, yes JAM's "Q-Cuts". Probably the best package that WSSL had ever used since it wasn't your traditional Country jingle package. It was actually created for Hot AC WKQI/Detroit, but a lot of Country stations had wound up using it as well. Former AC outlet WAAS/Columbia had the same package as well.

Q-Cut was one of the few packages from TM Century at the time period that was any good. I think I have a reel dub somewhere at my parents house of the Star TM master reel (tails out, 15 ips).

Here's the demo. The only difference between the Country and the AC demos is that the Country version has several examples on the demo of other country stations using the package.

As Carroll had mentioned, WIBZ in Sumter used this package. Also WBBQ/Augusta used it as well until early last year. In addition, Star 105 in Charleston and Sunny 106.5 in Myrtle Beach had it at some point as well.

I have one jingle story (related to WSSL) that I'd like to share.

Before WWMM/Greenville-Spartanburg signed on as 107.3 Jamz in 1994, they had briefly stunted with a AC format known as "Mix 107.3". Someone involved with the stunt had gotten a copy of JAM's "Q Cuts" sung as Mix 107.3 and decided to use them on the air as part of the stunt. Originally, these jingles were re-sings done for Mix 107.3 in Washington DC (WRQX), but for some reason, was never used on the air at that station.

Sounds good, doesn't it? But, there was a problem...one very BIG problem!

WSSL at that time was STILL using the "Q Cuts" package and had a exclusive licensing agreement with JAM that forbid anyone else from using it in the market! A few phone calls by WSSL to JAM (and a couple of copyright attorneys) yielded a C&D letter to WWMM and the Mix 107.3 jingles (and stunt) was pulled in a heartbeat!

Sorry. But the Morning Show on WSSL is grading on my last reserve nerve. My girlfriend loves it but I hate it. Beth Bradley's voice is like fingernails on a chalk board.

And if WSSL plays Sugerland one more time, I'll put my car in a ditch!
